Alabama basketball earns massive road win at Tennessee

It took a lot of scraping and clawing, but Alabama basketball broke a five-game losing streak to Tennessee on the hardwood with a stunning 71-69 come-from-behind win over the Vols at Thompson-Boiling Arena on Saturday.

Alabama took its first lead of the game when Labaron Philon hit a turnaround mid-range jumpshot with 23 seconds to play. The Crimson Tide overcame a massive rebounding disparity, and Philon outscored the Vols 13-8 by himself down the stretch.

It was the eighth consecutive win for the Crimson Tide, which now needs just one win in its final two games (at Georgia, vs. Auburn) to clinch the No. 2 seed in the SEC Tournament.

Alabama softball's dominance continues with 6-0 weekend

The dominant start to the season for Patrick Murphy and Alabama softball continued over the weekend in Tuscaloosa. The Crimson Tide moved to 20-0 on the season by going 6-0 across three doubleheaders.

As has been the case all year long, the wins came mostly easily for Alabama. It outscored its opponents over the weekend 41-2, earning wins over St. Thomas (x2), USF (x2), Kent State, and Oakland.

Only the Friday opener was competitive, with Alabama earning just a 2-0 win over St. Thomas as the Tide bats were quiet for one of the only times this season. Fortunately, ace Jocelyn Briski shut down the opposition, throwing seven shutout innings and striking out 14.

Alabama baseball goes 2-1 in Frisco

It was a productive weekend for Alabama baseball at the Frisco College Baseball Classic as the Crimson Tide went 2-1, earning wins over Iowa and No. 19 Oregon State before falling to Houston on Sunday.

Tyler Fay tossed a gem on Friday against the Hawkeyes, throwing six innings and giving up just one run in Alabama's 12-2 win. Luke Vaughn hit a 3-run home run in the first inning, and the Tide never looked back.

The biggest win of the young season came on Saturday when Alabama topped No. 19 Oregon State 8-7. Alabama broke out to a 6-0 lead off the strength of home runs by Brady Neal, Jason Torres, and Eric Hines. The Beavers wouldn't go away, staging a late rally, but Hagan Banks was able to get out of a 9th innning jam to preserve the win.

Alabama couldn't complete the weekend sweep on Sunday, falling 8-2 to Houston. Freshman Myles Upchurch struggled a bit for the first time, and the Alabama bats went quiet in the loss.

Alabama women's basketball comes up short vs. Texas to finish regular season

A ridiculous back-half of the SEC schedule did its number on Alabama women's basketball. Sunday's home loss to No. 4 Texas was the fifth in six games for the Crimson Tide to finish the regular season with a 7-9 SEC record.

Alabama was competitive, but never really a threat to pull the upset in a 72-65 loss to the Longhorns. Jessica Timmons led the Tide in scoring with 24 points.

Alabama will now enter the SEC Tournament as the No. 11 seed, meaning it will play in Wednesday's first-round against No. 14 Missouri. The winner will face No. 6 Tennessee on Thursday.
