Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes from Monday and Tuesday, September 15th and 16th.
Kalen DeBoer provides an update on LT Overton
While in Birmingham to speak at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club, Kalen DeBoer was asked about the status of star DL LT Overton moving forward. Overton suffered an undisclosed injury during the Crimson Tide's 38-14 win over Wisconsin. He left the game, went back in, and eventually went to the locker room and didn't return.
With injuries piling up on the defensive line, Alabama can ill-afford another one. Fortunately, the update DeBoer gave was positive. He stated that Overton is expected to play in two weeks when Alabama faces Georgia after the bye.
Overton registered his first sack of the season against Wisconsin on Saturday and was a big part of Alabama's breakout performance rushing the passer.
Kane Wommack wants his defense to be better responding to adversity
Kane Wommack was also on the road this week. He was in Mobile for an event on Monday, and he also spoke to reporters. He was asked about the defense, and while he was understandably happy with the way the Crimson Tide has played the last two weeks, he knows the big tests are still on the horizon.
Alabama dominated UL Monroe and Wisconsin, but faced little adversity on the way to easy victories. When the Tide faces Georgia in two weeks, it will undoubtedly face adversity for the first time since the season opener against Florida State. The hope is they handle it better than they did in Tallahassee.
“How we take a punch and how we move forward is critical," Wommack said.
LSU's recent QB commitment could be great news for Alabama
Kalen DeBoer and Alabama are locked into a fierce recruiting battle for the nation's No. 1 QB, Baton Rouge native Elijah Haven. One of the top competitors for Haven may have just removed itself from the race for the elite QB's signature.
LSU took a commitment on Monday from 4-star QB Peyton Houston, calling into question whether they will be true contenders for Haven. One of the other top suitors has always been Florida, but with the Gators off to a 1-2 start, Billy Napier's future in Gainesville is very much in doubt.
It could come down to an Alabama vs. Georgia battle, and the Crimson Tide has a distinct advantage over the Bulldogs.
Alabama working to flip an elite DL away from Michigan
Alabama was the runner-up to Michigan in the recruitment of 4-star DL Titan Davis from St. Louis. Davis committed to the Wolverines in June and was one of the few recruiting misses for DeBoer and company in what was an incredible run over the summer.
Despite Davis choosing Michigan, there's still a long way until the early signing period, and Alabama is not giving up the case just yet.
Cole Cloer moves up his official visit to Alabama basketball
It's been a nice run on the recruiting trail for Nate Oats. Last week, Alabama landed two commitments: 4-stars Chris Washington Jr. and Tarris Bouie. Alabama then hosted a trio of 5-star visitors over the weekend in Caleb Holt, Dylan Mingo, and Jaxon Richardson.
Now, 4-star wing Cole Cloer has moved up his official visit to this week. It could be a scheduling conflict, but it could also be Oats and Preston Murphy stressing the sense of urgency to Cloer as spots are filling up fast in the Tide's 2026 class.
The way things are headed, Alabama should be in contention for the No. 1 overall class.
