Alabama Crimson Tide news and notes from the weekend.
Alabama softball storms through the Tuscaloosa Regional in dominant fashion
Patrick Murphy and Alabama softball had little trouble with a tricky Regional draw over the weekend. The Crimson Tide went 3-0, outscoring its opponents 20-0 and rolling into the Super Regional series against LSU.
Alabama starters Kaitlyn Pallozzi, Jocelyn Briski, and Vic Moten combined to allow just six hits across 18 innings pitched in the series.
Murphy rolled the dice a little in the opening game against USC Upstate by starting his No. 3 pitcher in Pallozzi, but she dominated as Alabama rolled to an 8-0 win. Homers by Marlie Giles and Audrey Vandagriff paced the offensive effort.
In game two against Belmont, Briski outdueled Maya Johnson as she tossed a one-hit shutout, and the Crimson Tide earned a 3-0 victory. Alabama's offense scored all three of its runs in the first inning, highlighted by a bases-loaded, two-RBI single by Giles. It proved to be more than enough for Briski.
In the championship game, Alabama got a surprising rematch against USC Upstate. It went similarly to the first game, with the Tide rolling to a 9-0 win. Moten matched the brilliance of Briski, allowing just one hit across her six innings. Offensively, Jena Young homered twice, and Brooke Wells and Audrey Vandagriff added one each.
Alabama baseball clinches SEC Tournament double-bye with series win over Ole Miss
Rob Vaughn isn't getting enough credit for the job he's done with Alabama baseball. In his third year at the helm, he has the Crimson Tide in position to not just host a Regional for the first time since 2023, but potentially host a Super Regional as a national seed for the first time since 1999.
A series win over Ole Miss over the weekend in Tuscaloosa to finish out the regular season lifted the Crimson Tide to an 18-12 record in conference play and earned the No. 4 seed - and a double-bye - in this week's SEC Tournament in Hoover.
Alabama earned a 5-4 win to open the series against Ole Miss thanks to a quality start by Tyler Fay, and a three RBI day for star shortstop Justin Lebron.
Game two was a bust, with the Rebels rolling to a 9-0 win and setting up a pivotal rubber match with a double-bye on the line for the Crimson Tide.
Freshman Myles Upchurch was given the ball and got it done with arguably his best outing of the season. The freshman threw seven strong innings, holding Ole Miss to just four total hits as Alabama pulled out a 6-2 win.
RBI knocks by Lebron, John Lemm, and Jason Torres, along with a home run by Eric Hines, paced the offensive effort.
Alabama basketball schedules home-and-home with Seton Hall
While Nate Oats continues to wait for roster clarity as Amari Allen goes through the NBA Draft process, he's busy trying to set up Alabama's non-conference schedule for 2026-27.
On Friday, Oats secured a home-and-home for the Crimson Tide against Seton Hall out of the Big East. The first leg of the series will take place in Tuscaloosa this November, with Alabama making the return trip to Seton Hall in 2027.
The Pirates represent the second Big East opponent on Alabama's schedule, with the Tide set to face St. John's in Birmingham as the Johnnies make the return trip to Alabama after the Tide faced them in Madison Square Garden this past season.
Alabama track and field finishes 2nd in both men's and women's Outdoor Track Championships
Both men's and women's Track and Field came in second place over the weekend at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Arkansas won the men's side while Florida took the women's title.
Doris Lemngole won her third consecutive gold in the steeplechase, while also adding a win in the 5000-meter. On the men's side, Samuel Ogazi took home the gold for the Crimson Tide in the 400-meter dash.
