Alabama basketball lands Boise State's Drew Fielder in Transfer Portal
On Monday, Alabama landed a commitment from Boise State forward/center Drew Fielder, the Tide's fourth commitment in the Transfer Portal.
Fielder, who started his career at Georgetown, spent last season at Boise State and averaged 14.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40.9% from three. Fielder visited the Crimson Tide over the weekend and Nate Oats and company locked the recruitment down while he was in town.
Fielder joins an Alabama portal haul that includes Brandon Garrison (Kentucky), Jamarion Davis-Fleming (Mississippi State), and Cole Cloer (NC State).
The portal officially closed for new entrants as of midnight last night. Alabama could still have a player or two enter because the deadline was for players to submit paperwork to the University, and then the school has 48 hours to process it.
As things stand, although London Jemison was the only formal announcement, it appears Alabama will also bring back Aden Holloway, Keitenn Bristow, Collins Onyejiaka, and Preston Murphy Jr. The Tide could also bring back Amari Allen, who is currently testing the NBA Draft process.
Alabama football lands a surprise commitment from 3-star Edge Stevan Thornton III
Alabama is building momentum on the recruiting trail for the 2027 class, but the next commitment wasn't expected until 5-star QB Elijah Haven made his decision on Saturday. Instead, Kalen DeBoer got a nice surprise on Tuesday night.
3-star Edge Stevan Thornton III from Cairo, Georgia announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on his X account.
Thornton's ranking won't jump out at you, but his recruitment has been heating up in the last month with offers pouring in from the likes of Georgia, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, among others, following Alabama's decision to offer in early March.
Slumping Alabama baseball suffers mid-week rout by UAB
As has been the case too often under Rob Vaughn's guidance, Alabama baseball is going through a late-season swoon.
After an 11-2 loss at home to UAB on Tuesday night, Alabama is now just 2-6 in its last eight games. That included a series sweep at home against Arkansas, a series loss at Texas, and now a humiliating effort agains the Blazers at The Joe.
Alabama's offense managed just five hits, which matched the number of errors defensively.
Now, the Crimson Tide will look to bounce back and get back on track this weekend in Knoxville against Tennessee.
Alabama softball shuts out UAB, 6-0
On the softball side, Patrick Murphy's club had little trouble dispatching UAB in Birmingham. Star freshman pitcher Vic Moten threw a complete-game shutout, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits over seven innings in Alabama's 6-0 win.
The offensive effort was highlighted by homers from Lauren Johnson and Alexis Pupilo, to go along with a two-run double by Brooke Wells.
Softball will join the baseball team in Knoxville this weekend to face off against Tennessee.
