Alabama made up a lot of ground in a hurry to land its first offensive line commitment in the 2027 recruiting class.
3-star offensive lineman Stafford Willis, an in-state kid from Arab, didn't have an official offer to Alabama until June 9th. That offer changed everything in his recruitment, and he quickly set up an official visit to Tuscaloosa. He was in town this past weekend, and Kalen DeBoer and company immediately seized control of his recruitment.
Despite longer-standing offers from the likes of South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and UCLA, the opportunity to stay home was too good to pass up for Willis, who committed to the Crimson Tide on Tuesday.

Alabama lands 3-star OL Stafford Willis to 2027 recruiting class
Willis is the 2nd commitment of the day for the Crimson Tide, joining 3-star EDGE Tyler Younger, who pledged to Alabama earlier on Tuesday.
Willis is the first offensive lineman to commit to Alabama in this cycle, and could be the last. The Tide is still pursuing 4-star Antonio Berry, among others, but has not been aggressive in its pursuit of the position in this cycle.
That shouldn't come as too much of a surprise, however, considering DeBoer and his staff completely overhauled the offensive line room this offseason. Between the 2026 high school class and the Transfer Portal, Alabama brought in 11 new faces to the room. All 11 have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
Alabama believes they did excellent work in upgrading the room, and they will prioritize keeping the group together for multiple seasons. That doesn't leave a lot in the budget - or much opportunity for quick playing time - for the 2027 class.
That's why the staff began to aggressively pursue Willis over the last couple of weeks. He's a developmental prospect who will be cost-friendly and likely comfortable sitting back and learning for the next couple of years.
His first chance at making a real impact for Alabama likely won't come until the 2028 season.
Younger and Willis could be just the tipping point of the run for DeBoer and company this week. Alabama has several other targets expected to announce their commitments this week, including 3-star EDGE Jeremiah Beverly on Friday and 4-star WR Osani Gayles on Saturday. The Crimson Tide is trending for both.
Nobody will mistake this recruiting run for either in the last two summers, but it's nice to see Alabama finally grabbing some momentum on the trail after a slow-moving 2027 cycle to date.
