Alabama's 2027 recruiting class is smaller than the usual high school crop they would take, but that's by design. Kalen DeBoer and GM Courtney Morgan are happy with the current roster and want to spend to retain as much of it as they possibly can for 2027 while supplementing in the Transfer Portal.
Early returns on Alabama's 2026 Transfer Portal class are strong. Alabama's two most impactful defenders in last week's 45-17 win over Kentucky were transfers Devan Thompkins and Caleb Woodson.
Alabama has 14 committed prospects in 2027 and is looking to add a handful more. That means the Crimson Tide will likely have to flip prospects already committed elsewhere.
Two of those potential flip candidates will be on campus this weekend for visits during the Florida State game.
LB Ayden Coleman (Mississippi State) and DL Joshua Lane (Memphis) will be in Tuscaloosa this weekend.
Alabama could have Ayden Coleman and Joshua Lane on flip watch this weekend
This will be Coleman's second visit to Tuscaloosa. The 3-star linebacker from Louisville, Mississippi, took an official visit to Alabama over the summer shortly after he committed to Mississippi State. He chose to stick with his commitment to the Bulldogs then, but obviously still has interest in the Crimson Tide if he's coming to the game on Saturday.
Coleman is a high school teammate of former top Alabama target Mitchell Turner, a 4-star defensive lineman. Turner looked like an Alabama lean for much of his recruitment, but he ultimately chose Ole Miss.
This will be Lane's first trip to Tuscaloosa. Alabama extended an offer to the Memphis commitment earlier this week. He wasted little time setting up a trip to see the Crimson Tide in person.
Lane committed to Memphis over the summer, but the 6-foot-3, 265-pound defensive lineman has put up some impressive senior tape that has seen his recruitment pick up steam in the last week and a half. Over that span, he's added offers from Power Four programs Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi State, Iowa State, and Alabama.
The Alabama offer was obviously impactful, with Lane setting up a trip to Tuscaloosa so quickly after it came in.
Neither defensive line nor linebacker is a major priority for Alabama in this class, but they would certainly be interested in adding one more of each. In terms of flip potential, Lane seems like the most likely of the two, but DeBoer and company are going to get one final swing at Coleman, who has seemed pretty solid with his Mississippi State commitment up to this point.
