Kalen DeBoer is building a ridiculous quarterback factory in Tuscaloosa.

A week ago, Alabama landed the commitment from 5-star Elijah Haven, the No. 1 QB in the 2027 recruiting cycle. It marked the third straight cycle in which the Crimson Tide added a 5-star quarterback with Haven joining Keelon Russell (2025) and Jett Thomalla (2026).

On Friday, DeBoer got his 2028 quarterback early. Virginia's Charles Scott Jr. committed to Alabama, a mammoth 6-foot-5, 235-pound high school sophomore.

And he might not be the only quarterback to ultimatley land in the Tide's 2028 class.

Current 4-star Kingston Preyear from Benjamin Russell High School in Alexander City, who is tracking to potentially end up a 5-star in his own right, trimmed his list of schools down to six on Saturday. As expected, Alabama made the cut, alongside Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Notre Dame, and Vanderbilt:

Alabama makes the top six for 2028 QB Kingston Preyear

Alabama may face an uphill battle for Preyear in the 2028 class. Working against it is the quarterback factory that DeBoer has built. With Russell on campus for at least another year after the 2026 season, Thomalla coming into his freshman season, and Haven slated to join for the 2027 season, the competition in the room will be fierce. That's not to mention developmental signal-callers like Tayden-Evan Kaawa or Trent Seaborn, either.

Florida has been seen as the early leader for Preyear, but there's a long way to go in the recruitment for everyone in the 2028 class.

One thing working in Alabama's favor is that Preyear's top target last year at Benjamin Russell, WR Cederian Morgan, signed with the Crimson Tide in the 2026 class and would be a rising junior by the time Preyear would arrive on campus.

Preyear is currently listed at 6-foot-3 and 195 pounds. He's rated as the No. 4 QB in the 2028 class and the No. 51 overall player in the country. He threw for over 3000 yards with 34 touchdowns to just five interceptions as a sophomore.
