Alabama is loading up at quarterback for now and the future.

Less than a week after the Crimson Tide secured the commitment of Elijah Haven, the top-ranked quarterback in the 2027 recruiting class, the program has added a pledge from Charles Scott Jr,, a class of 2028 signal caller from Richmond, Virginia. Scott chose Alabama over a ton of offers, with Maryland, Georgia and Syracuse being among the early leaders.

Scott is a big athlete, listed at 6-foot-5, 255 pounds, so it's no surprise that he's also a power forward for his high school basketball team. By size alone, Scott gives off vibes of big quarterbacks like Daunter Culpepper. His game speaks for itself. Scott has a big arm and threw for over 3,500 yards and 40 touchdowns as a sophomore. In an interview with 247Sports' Brett Greenberg, Scott expressed a desire to play for Kalen DeBoer after seeing his Washington Huskies teams before he arrived in Tuscaloosa.

"I have had my eyes set on [DeBoer] since he was at Washington when he had Michael Penix, and he made a national championship run," he said. "He knows what he is doing. He can get me to where I want to go and my long-term goal. He is a good dude overall outside of football. I know I can make good connections with him on a personal level, mental level and a coaching level."

Scott is the first commitment for Alabama in the 2028 recruiting class.

How will Alabama's QB situation play out in the future with the addition of Charles Scott Jr.?

Austin Mack and Keelon Russell will be the top two quarterbacks for the 2026 season with the starter yet to be determined. Depending on how things shake down, Haven will try to jump into the mix for 2027 along with top 2026 recruit Jett Thomalla. It's a deep group with a lot of upside and the competition should make for a good problem to have.

With Scott not coming in until the 2028 class, the depth chart will probably thin out a bit with Haven and Thomalla in position to be the starter through 2029, if not longer. This will allow Scott to come in develop for a couple of seasons.
