Kalen DeBoer and Alabama are heating up on the recruiting trail. 4-star TE Mack Sutter became the second blue-chip recruit to commit to the Crimson Tide on Thursday when he announced his decision. Sutter, a Dunlap, Illinois native, chose Alabama over Illinois, Ohio State, and Ole Miss.

Sutter joins 5-star RB Ezavier Crowell in announcing commitments to Alabama today. He becomes the Tide's 12th commitment of 2026 as the recruiting run Tide fans have been waiting for has officially arrived.

Sutter and Crowell both took official visits to Tuscaloosa this past weekend.

Sutter is a massive addition to the Tide's class, particularly after a recent miss on Roman Voss, who chose to stay home at Minnesota. Sutter is the No. 6-ranked TE in the 247 composite rankings and a consensus Top 100 player.

Sutter is an impressive recruiting win for the coaching staff, and another early evaluation that paid off. Alabama extended an offer to him last March, jumping on him before his recruitment blew up over the last year.

At 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds with immense athleticism, Sutter is the type of unicorn weapon that DeBoer and OC Ryan Grubb are drooling over. His future is at TE, but he could reasonably line up out wide as a WR and take advantage of his size against smaller DBs. Lined up against safeties and linebackers, they'll have trouble keeping up with his speed.

Sutter is a two-way star at his high school, producing 505 yards and 7 touchdowns as a receiver and 36 tackles and six sacks on defense during his junior season.

Sutter adds more young talent to an improving Alabama TE room

Alabama hasn't had a TE eclipse 500 receiving yards since Irv Smith Jr. in 2018. They've lacked a real difference-maker in the room since then, and now they've added a blue-chip prospect at the position for the second consecutive cycle.

In the 2025 class, Alabama added two 4-stars in Kaleb Edwards and Marshall Pritchett. Now, they've added Sutter, who could be the best of the bunch.

TE was a glaring need this offseason for Alabama after losing its top two players at the position from last year in CJ Dippre and Robbie Ouzts. Alabama added two players out of the Transfer Portal in West Virginia's Jack Sammarco and Troy's Brody Dalton, but both are more in-line, blocking tight ends, whereas Edwards and Sutter specifically are more receiving threats.

Alabama's top TE on the 2025 roster is senior Josh Cuevas. He and Dalton are entering their final season of eligibility, so adding more young talent to the room this offseason was a priority for DeBoer and staff.
