Edge rusher is a major position of need for Alabama in the 2027 recruiting class, particularly finding additional Wolf LB prospects.
That position group is a little bit thin, depending on your opinion of the future of 5-star Xavier Griffin, who projects at either on or off-ball linebacker, depending on your preference. He can contribute off the edge immediately as a freshman, but his best position in the future might be off-ball.
Either way, Alabama is likely to lose Yhonzae Pierre to the NFL Draft after this season, and even if Griffin stays on the edge or plays a hybrid-type role like Jihaad Campbell, Kalen DeBoer and Kane Wommack need more bodies there.
Arguably, the top target for the Crimson Tide in the 2027 class is composite 4-star KJ Green, who is rated as a 5-star, Top 10 overall prospect by 247 Sports. Green, the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder from Stone Mountain, Georgia, has been at the top of Alabama's board for this class for a long time, and that hasn't changed as focus has narrowed.
Green had a dominant junior season, producing 40 tackles for loss and 18 sacks as he exploded into one of the nation's most coveted recruits.
Alabama will face stiff competition between now and his scheduled commitment date on August 8th, but there's an inherent advantage that DeBoer and company will have with his visit schedule officially lined up.
Alabama will receive KJ Green's final official visit of the summer
First impressions are always important, but in recruiting, there's no better spot to be in than to have the opportunity to make the final impression.
That's where the Crimson Tide will be with Green. He'll visit Georgia, Oregon, Texas, and South Carolina in succession before taking his trip to Tuscaloosa on June 19th:
Stephenson (Ga.) 5-star EDGE KJ Green has finalized his five official visits, he tells @247Sports. Green broke down each of the five finalists ahead of an Aug. 8 commitment day.

Alabama will be competing against some of the top programs in the country for Green, but that's to be expected with a player of his caliber.
DeBoer and the Tide will get official visits from some of the top prospects in the country this summer, but there may not be a more important one than Green, and that includes 5-star WR Monshun Sales.
Green is an elite edge prospect, one who can be a real difference-maker as a true freshman and one who can develop into a potential first-round NFL Draft pick down the road.
Grabbing his last visit puts Alabama in a strong position to make the final impression before he makes his decision. The Crimson Tide has been in a good position for Green for a while, but official visit season is when the chips are down, and it matters the most.
DeBoer and his staff have frequently hit home runs during visits. If they can do the same here with Green next month, Alabama will be feeling good heading into his announcement in August.
