Alabama's new bowl projections will insanely bring up Kalen DeBoer hot seat talks again

At this point, you can only laugh. With Alabama hiring Kalen DeBoer to take over for the legendary Nick Saban, everyone can agree that DeBoer was put in an unfair position. He doesn't care about that, though, and he silenced plenty of haters by leading Bama to the College Football Playoff last season. Just like his first year, though, could the Tide miss out on the CFP in 2026?

That's what Brett McMurphy has on his bingo card, as the veteran scribe has DeBoer and Co. playing against USC and Lincoln Riley in the Las Vegas Bowl. Ouch. Not going to happen, Brett. If by some miracle it does, you already know that people are going to rip DeBoer and claim that he should be fired by the university. Please, don't get us started with that nonsense.

Any idea of Kalen DeBoer coaching for his job at Alabama is absurd

Let's make one thing clear: DeBoer is not on the hot seat at all, and he's not coaching for his job this year. Sure, maybe if Alabama didn't reach the CFP last year, then there'd be some added pressure on him, but that wasn't the case, with Ty Simpson and his teammates traveling to Norman and taking down Oklahoma in the first round.

Yes, everyone still brings up the embarrassing loss to Indiana at the Rose Bowl, but hey, give credit to Fernando Mendoza and Curt Cignetti, who went on to win it all. It was an eye-opening loss for the fanbase to swallow, but it took nothing away from how Alabama was able to bounce back in a big way in '25.

Apparently the administration thought it was more than good enough, giving DeBoer a handsome extension. With his new deal, he's locked in as the leader of the SEC powerhouse through the end of January 2033. Do people really think if McMurphy is spot on with his prediction here that Alabama is just going to can DeBoer and start from scratch again? No chance.

Rumors were flying this past offseason about Michigan showing strong interest in DeBoer after it fired Sherrone Moore, but Alabama reminded him that they want him to get this program back to where it belongs. That'd be competing for national championships.

Entering the new season, Alabama is ranked No. 13 in the AP Top 25 poll, with a Week 1 dance with East Carolina around the corner. Come Week 2, a meeting with Kentucky will be on the way, and then revenge will be on everyone's mind when Florida State and Mike Norvell make their way to Tuscaloosa in Week 3.

That will be followed by matchups with South Carolina and Mississippi State before a MONSTER battle with Georgia on Oct. 10. In a perfect world, Bama will be 5-0 entering that game vs. the Dawgs, with a chance to send a primetime statement. It could go a long way in helping the Tide reach the CFP, which would also make McMurphy look silly. The same could be said for people who keep doubting DeBoer and think he's on borrowed time with Alabama. Sorry, that's not the case.
