Losses don't often leave a Playoff contender unscathed. That's not exactly the case for the Alabama Crimson Tide, but almost. Based on the latest ESPN FPI, only four teams have a better chance than the Crimson Tide of making the CFB Playoff field. One of them, of course, is Georgia.

Even without computer models accounting for horrendous officiating mistakes, Alabama was not hurt much by the loss to Georgia. College football experts project the Crimson Tide to be anywhere from a 2-seed to a 9-seed, with most predictions having Alabama as a 5-seed or a 6-seed.

Based on the opinions of college football experts from ESPN, CBS Sports and On3, the Crimson Tide should not only make the field, but will host its first game. The projection most satisfactory to Alabama wins comes from Andy Staples.

CBS Sports' Brad Crawford predicts five SEC teams in the Playoff field. Crawford has Alabama as a 4-seed, Georgia as a 2-seed, Texas as an 8-seed, Ole Miss as a 10-seed, and Kentucky as an 11-seed. The Crimson Tide's road win over the Wildcats has become a real boost.

ESPN provides Playoff seed projections from 13 of its experts. All of them have the Crimson Tide as a Playoff team. Two from ESPN project Alabama as a 4-seed, five as a 5-seed, four as a 6-seed, one as a 7-seed, and one as a 9-seed.

No 'Bubble' watching for the Alabama Crimson Tide

Week 7 SEC Playoff 'Bubble Watch'

  • SEC Playoff Contenders: Georgia, Alabama, and Texas
  • SEC Bubble Teams: Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Kentucky, and Missouri
  • SEC 'Below the Bubble' Teams: Mississippi State, Oklahoma, and Florida
  • SEC 'Forget About It' Teams: Auburn
  • SEC 'Maybe Next Year' Teams: Texas A&M, South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Arkansas

In Week 7 of college football, only four-loss teams are technically eliminated from the Playoff chase. Arkansas is the SEC's only four-loss team. On the brink with three losses are Texas A&M, South Carolina, and Vanderbilt.
