5-star WR Monshun Sales is one of the most highly sought-after players in the 2027 recruiting class. He's a consensus Top 10 prospect and the No. 1 WR in the composite.

Sales recently trimmed his list down to four schools and set up his official visits to each. Sales is down to Alabama, Ohio State, Indiana, and Miami.

Alabama has long been considered the favorite as the Indianapolis product is originally from the Yellowhammer State and grew up a fan of the Crimson Tide. Most experts believed the biggest competition would come from Indiana or Ohio State, with the Hoosiers in his new backyard and the defending national champions, and the Buckeyes having a recent history of development at his position that no other program can match.

But according to On3/Rivals Vice President Steve Wiltfong, Alabama's biggest competition for Sales might be coming from Miami instead.

"I like where the Crimson Tide stand, continue to like where they stand with Monshun Sales right now going into the spring," Wilftong said. ..."Indiana and Ohio State remain frontrunners where they have been the entire process. The program that I have a keen eye on for Monshun Sales moving forward, the school that maybe I'm most worried about if I'm Alabama is Miami."

Miami may be the biggest threat to Alabama for 5-star WR Monshun Sales

"He had a great visit to Coral Gables in the fall," Wiltfong continued. ..."I expect him back at Miami a couple more times before he decides, and I can see the Hurricanes really going on a run in this recruitment. If I'm Alabama, they may have to hold off 'The U' at the end."

Miami becoming a factor could be bad news for Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. The Hurricanes will put together a major NIL offer to try to poach Sales away from Alabama.

The Hurricanes have also shown a willingness to spend big money each Transfer Portal cycle to bring in an elite QB, which would be comforting for a WR, though Alabama will be able to offer a bit more stability from that position with its penchant for growing talent at home.

Sales's upcoming official visits in the spring/summer will tell us a lot about his future plans. Alabama remains in a good position, but it better be prepared for a fight until the end.
