Alabama staff compares Monshun Sales favorably to former Kalen DeBoer superstar

A recruiting update should give Alabama even more of a reason that it could land Monshun Sales.

Every prospect is different. However, being compared to a superstar who has thrived in the same system under largely the same staff should be music to Monshun Sales' ears. Although Rome Odunze did not play for the Alabama Crimson Tide, he did star for Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb as a member of the Washington Huskies. He is the player the Alabama staff believes Sales could become for them.

This was relayed by On3/Rivals' Steve Wiltfong heading into another exciting weekend of recruiting.

"Well, Monshun Sales, when he was in Tuscaloosa, heard the name Rome Odunze a lot. That is who this Crimson Tide staff compares the elite wide receiver to. Rome Odunze obviously shined in the Washington Huskies' offense under Kalen DeBoer, Ryan Grubb, and company before hearing his name called in the first round of the NFL Draft for the Chicago Bears, where he's already making an impact in The Windy City."

Wiltfong continued by saying Alabama keeps on putting out the good vides to Sales and his family.

"The Sales camp called Alabama a first-class place. He got immersed into the program over the weekend and continues to love Alabama, his dream school growing up."

Here is everything Wiltfong had to say about Sales' interest in Alabama, as well as more on recruiting.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Sales is the No. 1 player from Indiana, the No. 1 wide receiver in the country, and the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting cycle. So far, Sales has taken three of his four official visits on the docket. He went to Indiana back on April 24. Sales made the trek to Alabama on May 29. He just visited Texas on June 5. Sales still has to visit Ohio State on June 12.

Ohio State, Texas, and even Miami may be in play for him, but it feels like a two-team race for Sales.

Monshun Sales draws lofty comparison to Rome Odunze as star receiver

At this juncture, it feels like Sales' five-star commitment will go to either Alabama or Indiana. He may live and play his high school football in Indianapolis, but he grew up a massive Crimson Tide fan, and he has family members from all over the Yellowhammer State. It is looking more and more like Notre Dame in-state is not going to be a factor for him. The question is if Alabama can hold off Indiana here.

While it feels like Sales is the one recruit Alabama may prioritize above everybody else at this point, let's not put the cart in front of the horse just yet. He may have strong sentimental ties to the Crimson Tide, but Alabama has not been a big spender on the NIL front. Not to say that it will come down to that, but it is always something to keep in mind when it comes to a major prospect of his magnitude.

What is important to understand here is that Alabama already has a plan in place for Sales, should he commit to the Crimson Tide. While Indiana has had a plethora of great wide receivers of late, Curt Cignetti may not be able to put the same kind of spin on Sales' recruitment as DeBoer and his staff seem to be doing. Odunze might still be trying to find his footing in Chicago, but the talent is there.

At this time, the only thing standing in Alabama's way of getting Sales to commit is an Ohio State visit.
