What a perfect finish to Alabama's 2027 recruiting class would look like for Kalen DeBoer

With only eight commitments, Kalen DeBoer has a lot of work to do in Alabama's 2027 class.

This was always going to be a smaller recruiting class for Alabama. There just wasn't any other way.

Fans are still coming around to the idea, but this Alabama class isn't going to finish in the Top 5 again. It's not going to finish in the Top 10, either. Top 15-20 might even be pushing it. That's not necessarily because of a talent issue, though; it's a numbers game in the recruiting world, and Alabama is going to sign a much smaller class than its peers.

Alabama signed a 27-man high school class in the 2026 cycle and followed that up by signing 17 in the Transfer Portal, the majority of whom have multiple years of eligibility. There are only nine seniors on the roster, and Kalen DeBoer and GM Courtney Morgan will be focused on roster retention and strategic portal additions after the season, more so than on high school recruiting. They feel like the roster has plenty of young talent as is.

That's going to require a major adjustment for Alabama fans. It's quantity over quality for a fanbase that is used to both.

Alabama currently has eight commitments. The feeling is they will sign somewhere in the range of 15-20, but probably closer to 15 than 20. I think the best-case scenario for this class is 18; that's keeping the eight currently in the boat and then reeling in these 10 more:

10 Alabama commitments that would send the Tide's 2027 class soaring

1. 5-star WR Monshun Sales

DeBoer's white whale in this class. Monshun Sales is one of the best players regardless of position in the 2027 class, and the Alabama native took his official visit to Tuscaloosa over the final weekend of May. The Tide made a big impression, and while Texas, Ohio State, and Miami will shoot their shot with the elite WR, this is shaping up to be an Alabama-Indiana battle.

2. 5-star CB Hayden Stepp

The Las Vegas native took his official the same weekend as Sales'. This is a four-horse battle between Alabama, Oregon, Georgia, and Cal, with the Ducks long being seen as the biggest competition for the Crimson Tide. He takes his visit to Eugene this weekend, and if Alabama can survive that, they should be in good shape.

3. 4-star WR Osani Gayles

Osani Gayles is much more than a consolation prize for Sales. Alabama would love to sign both WRs as cornerstones for the future of the offense. Gayles is the perfect complement to Sales with his speed. They visited together in late May. Gayles has visits still lined up with Washington and Tennessee before making his decision on June 27th.

4. 4-star DL Mitchell Turner

Alabama has been seen as the overwhelming favorite for 4-star Mitchell Turner for quite some time, but he has gone on to take other visits after visiting the Capstone. He's taken trips to LSU and Ole Miss since, and still has trips lined up to Texas and Mississippi State. Alabama remains in good shape, but hasn't quite gotten to the finish line yet.

5. 4-star OT Antonio Berry

Plenty of Tide fans are freaking out about Alabama not having a single offensive lineman committed to this class, but it's important to remember that between the high school and portal class, DeBoer and company signed 11 offensive linemen over this past offseason. All of them have multiple years of eligibility remaining. The offensive line is the least of Alabama's concerns with this class, but they'd still like to land a prospect or two.

The top name on the board is Tupelo's Antonio Berry, and his visit to Tuscaloosa on June 19th looms large.

6. 4-star DE Antwan Jackson

Antwan Jackson has been on commit watch for a while, and no intel has knocked Alabama out of its perch atop his recruitment. He has visits ahead at Missouri and his home state, Tennessee, after visiting Ole Miss last weekend.

7. 3-star CB Darrius White

Another Alabama leads for and one who has been on commit watch for a couple of weeks now. The 3-star CB has tremendous upside. He's slated to make his announcement on July 4th, with visits still scheduled to Georgia Tech and Cincinnati before then.

8. 3-star WR Majay Thompson

Perhaps it's surprising to see Majay Thompson on this list if Alabama lands both Sales and Gayles, but Thompson has had the green light to commit from the coaching staff despite its pursuit of the two elite WRs. Thompson is a priority regardless, and just wrapped up his official visit over the weekend with Alabama. The Crimson Tide is one of four schools alive in his recruitment, joined by Georgia, Wake Forest, and Florida State.

9. 3-star RB Tai Phillips

Tai Phillips will announce his commitment this evening, with all intel pointing toward him choosing the Crimson Tide. Alabama already landed 4-star RB Nigel Newkirk a week ago, and adding Phillips would give them quite the two-headed monster in the 2027 class.

10. 3-star LB Ayden Coleman

Ayden Coleman earned an offer from Alabama recently while camping with the Crimson Tide, and he could sweeten the pot a little bit for Turner. The duo are high school teammates and could ultimately be a package deal in Tuscaloosa.

Where Alabama's class would finish with these 10 additional commitments

Per the 247 class calculator, Alabama's class would finish with a team score of 257.05. That score would have placed it No. 13 in the 247 composite team rankings in the 2026 cycle. It's safe to assume it would finish somewhere in that neighborhood this cycle.

Signing a class like that might be tough to swallow for Alabama fans, but adding these 10 would still make for an insanely talented haul for DeBoer. Now, odds aren't super strong that things go perfectly and Alabama ends up signing all 10 of the above prospects. This is a best-case scenario after all.

Alabama may sit in a good spot with all the prospects above, but things change quickly on the recruiting trail. For better and worse. There are always surprises.

Regardless of where the class finishes in the rankings, if the best-case scenario unfolds, DeBoer and his staff would deserve a ton of credit for an incredible close.
