Woody graduated from Alabama in the class of 1974 and following a tour on active duty in the Army, returned to the Capstone for law school. He is the author of "Historic Photos of University of Alabama Football" (Turner Publishing Co., 2009), named Best New Book of 2010 in sportswriting by USA Book News.
