Just when we thought things could not get any worse, Lubbock County, Texas has found a way... Somehow, some way, Texas Tech Red Raiders transfer quarterback Brendan Sorsby was granted an injunction so that he can be eligible to play for the 2026 season. He was previously deemed ineligible for gambling on games involving his former team, Indiana, while he was on their roster. This is so awful.
The lack of moral fiber in Lubbock, Texas has effectively turned college sports into glorified kayfabe.
Breaking: A judge in district court in Lubbock County, Texas, has granted the injunction requested by Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby. He’s set to be eligible for the 2026 season.

Sorsby cannot play in Texas Tech's first two games, which was the penalty his legal team suggested to… pic.twitter.com/TLNJgVCF0e
Texas Tech was still a contender in the Big 12, but having Sorsby part of it makes the Red Raiders even more likely to make it back to the College Football Playoff. The fact he only gets to sit out two games is so beyond rich, it is eye-gouging. Of course, Alabama fans are wondering why this ruling is justifiable, but Charles Bediako's eligibility case on the Crimson Tide hardwood was a bridge too far...
The NCAA coule appeal this temporary injunction, but Sorbsy playing is the eptiome of bad ethically.
Brendan Sorsby got a slap on the wrist, while Charles Bediako was vilified
Over on X, it was not that hard for college fans to draw the connection between Sorbsy and Bediako.
I’m amazed of what other teams can get away with but Alabama basketball couldn’t play Charles Bediako. That was the one thing that was somehow a bridge too far. https://t.co/TEjP0jOkX4

With Bediako losing his case to an unfriendly local judge, Alabama fans are totally beside themselves.
The only guy on the planet to lose a case to the NCAA (Charles Bediako) in the last 4 years has thoughts. https://t.co/Ez2yvaV2Rs

With the SEC dangling the idea of breaking away from the SEC, Sorsby opened up a can of worms.
All I know is that if Charles Bediako can sue somebody, he should sue the shit out of

You can now bet on games and still play??
The NCAA screwed Bediako and Alabama as hard as they could
Please let this lead to a breakaway by the Blue Bloods
Had Bediako been eligible down the stretch, maybe Alabama would have made it to the Final Four?
Brendan Sorsby ruling could indirectly impact Alabama's playoff chances
In the event that Sorsby is allowed to play all but two games for the Red Raiders this year, it could negatively impact Alabama's chances of making the College Football Playoff. While the Big 12 has been a one-team league the last two years, that could change in a hurry. Texas Tech could be good enough to get in as an at-large team, assuming somebody else like BYU ends up winning in Arlington.
Heading into the college football season, Alabama is in a group of about five or so SEC teams that could make the playoff, but are not viewed as locks at this point. Georgia has made it both years in the 12-team format. Texas is everyone's favorite SEC team, if they do not already have an SEC team... As for Alabama, they are battling with the likes of LSU, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M for bids.
While Alabama did make the playoff a season ago, and does have a fairly navigable schedule, any unexpected slip-up could cost them big time. Although there is a non-zero chance that Texas Tech may have to forfeit its games, it plays with Sorsby, which did not stop Michigan from winning a national championship two years ago with all of the skeletons in its closet. This whole thing is a slimy mess...

Ultimately, nobody outside of Lubbock is going to be rooting for the Red Raiders this season. They have united the entire college football world against them. Alabama is not the first school to be on the wrong side of things with the NCAA, but it is among the most recent. Every school of note has had its issues with the NCAA over the years. Sadly, Texas Tech is operating without consequences at all here.
If there was ever a time for college football to have a major governing body, that ship may have sailed.
