Domani Jackson's Alabama perseverance leads to Day 3 NFL Draft opportunity

Far from a guarantee to get drafted after a disappointing senior season, Alabama CB Domani Jackson heard his name called on day three of the NFL Draft.

Domani Jackson was a projected day two NFL Draft pick a year ago, following a productive first season with Alabama after he transferred from USC. He elected to come back to college for one more year, and things didn't go the way he hoped.

While Alabama improved and got into the College Football Playoff, Jackson seemed to regress as a senior. His coverage skills were fine, but he was constantly picked on in the running game, with teams consistently running wide to his side of the field and taking advantage of his lack of physicality.

As a result, he lost his starting job for a period of time to freshman Dijon Lee, though to his credit, Jackson kept his head up and earned his way back on the field. That perseverance undoubtedly helped him find an NFL home on day three of the NFL Draft.

Jackson was selected in the 6th Round, No. 201 overall by the Green Bay Packers:

Jackson became the eighth Alabama player to get selected, and the fifth on day three of the draft. After Kadyn Proctor and Ty Simpson were picked in the first round, Germie Bernard was Alabama's lone day two representative. Jackson joins LT Overton, Parker Brailsford, Justin Jefferson, and Josh Cuevas on day three so far, with others potentially to come.

Jackson was a former 5-star recruit coming out of high school and has the physical tools and speed to become a contributor for an NFL defensive backfield.

He went through the wringer in his final season at Alabama.

Jackson began the season as a potential All-American candidate and was ultimately benched for a freshman. But he battled back and started all three of Alabama's postseason games, acquitting himself nicely against Georgia, Oklahoma, and Indiana.

That level of perseverance will serve him well at the next level as he gets his shot with the Packers.
