Alabama QB Jalen Milroe hasn't gotten off to a great start at the Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, according to multiple reports.
It's an important week for Milroe as Senior Bowl week is the official start of the NFL Draft process. There's not a more polarizing prospect in this class than Milroe. There's also not another player with as drastic a potential swing in draft position than him, either.
Some experts believe Milroe could be a Top 5 pick in April's draft. Others think he will fall out of the first round entirely. Thus far at the Senior Bowl, Milroe has done little to improve his standing.
Even the measurement process went against Milroe, with his hand size being measured and revealing they are smaller than any starting QB in the NFL. That alone will be a tough flaw to overcome and one that could harm his stock.
Tuesday was the first time scouts got to see Milroe and others throw the football as practices began for Saturday's game. Early reports show that it was an inconsistent day for the Alabama QB.
Per Bleacher Report's Scouting Department:
"Milroe did not push the ball down the field much and went to his check-down fairly quickly. He held the football longer and allowed the pocket to collapse as well."
There was some video posted to social media showing Milroe's struggles throwing the football that included one-hopping a receiver in a one-on-one period (meaning it was just Milroe and the WR with no defender).
Struggling one day at the Senior Bowl is not disqualifying. Both Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix struggled in Mobile last year, and both became first round picks and productive NFL rookies. QB is the hardest position to play well at the Senior Bowl because you have no timing and no reps with any of the receivers you are playing with.
TE CJ Dippre is the only pass catcher in Mobile that Milroe has any familiarity with.
It was noted that Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart had similar struggles on Tuesday.
It wasn't all bad for Milroe, though. Some draftniks were quick to point out how live Milroe's arm is and how he has a different zip on his throws than the other QBs in attendance.
It will be interesting to see how Milroe bounces back on Wednesday and throughout the rest of the week.
