It's been a slow burn for Alabama's 2027 recruiting class, but slowly and surely, Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide are beginning to build some momentum on the trail.

The first official visit weekend of the summer last weekend was fruitful, even if it only produced one commitment thus far in 4-star RB Nigel Newkirk. Seeds were planted for others that will bloom in the coming weeks.

This weekend was a smaller group with only five total prospects on campus for official visits, one of which (5-star QB Elijah Haven) was already committed to Alabama. But even with a smaller group, it has already produced two commitments.

3-star TE Michael Nnabuife, a priority target for the Crimson Tide in the aftermath of Colt Lumpris' flip to Michigan, flipped his commitment from Syracuse to Alabama on Saturday, as many expected would happen if he made the trip.

He wasn't by himself for long.

Lumberton, Texas, kicker Luke Cody announced his commitment to Alabama late Saturday night, per BamaOnline:

Alabama lands commitment from Top 10 kicker Luke Cody on his official visit

Cody was a late addition to the official visit calendar for Alabama this weekend. He added an offer from the Crimson Tide just this week after camping in Tuscaloosa and impressing the coaching staff with his leg and his accuracy.

He's an under-the-radar recruit who only had an FBS offer from Texas State before Alabama gave him one this week.

Per Kohl's kicking, Cody is the No. 9-ranked kicker in the 2027 recruiting class, and his scouting report is as follows:

"Luke Cody delivered an impressive performance at the 2026 Kohl's Southern Spring Showcase, finishing field goal charting with 14 points, which ranked him 3rd overall. He followed this with 114.05 points during kickoff charting, achieving a best ball of 73 yards and a hang time of 4.2 seconds. Completing the day, he earned 101.48 total points in punts, with a best hit of 57 yards and a hang time of 4.65 seconds. This was his best camp to date. Previously, Cody impressed at the 2026 Kohl's National Underclassman Challenge, where he recorded a kickoff score of 116.03 points and an overall field goal score of 12 points, along with a 59-yard punt that had a hang time of 4.26 seconds. At the 2025 Kohl's Texas Winter Showcase, he achieved 9 points in field goal charting, 112.6 on kickoffs, and 99.57 on punts, further solidifying his status among the top recruits. His overall performance demonstrated solid mechanics and the ability to compete against other great specialists in his class."

Alabama has two underclassmen at kicker on the roster already with redshirt junior Conor Talty and sophomore Lorcan Quinn, who transferred to the Crimson Tide this offseason from Marshall. Quinn and Talty are battling it out for the starting job, and could be used in more of a time-share at the position this year.

Cody gives them a developmental kicker who can come in and develop for a couple of years before potentially taking over as Alabama's starting kicker when Quinn leaves following the 2028 season.
