When it comes to 2027 recruiting, there's no question that 5-star wide receiver Monshun Sales is at the top of the wishlist for Alabama and Kalen DeBoer. However, Curt Cignetti and Indiana, fresh off winning the national title, are hoping to crash the party there.
3 biggest unknowns facing Kalen DeBoer now that Alabama spring ball is finished
Just recently, Sales took his official visit to Bloomington and things went quite well for him. So much in fact, while On3's Steve Wiltfong said this appears to be a two-team battle between Indiana and Alabama, he did add that it looks like the Hoosiers may be in the lead right now. Obviously, that's not ideal for DeBoer and his staff:

Indiana appears to be in the lead over Alabama for 5-star WR Monshun Sales
"I think this is a recruitment the Hoosiers are invested in," Wiltfong said. "Moving forward, I think that maybe they have grabbed that pole position as this process continues."
Well, dang. With Sales being an Indianapolis product, it helps Cignetti and the Hoosiers quite a bit, as they're the home-state program and he's no stranger to campus. Sales has quickly developed a strong bond with both coaches and players in town.
However, the same can be said for how things are going between him and Alabama. DeBoer has made him a top priority and the Crimson Tide are showing him love around the clock. What could end up making the difference here is Sales' upcoming official visit to Tuscaloosa.
The 6-5, 195-pounder is all set to visit Alabama on May 29, which will be his second official. He's then scheduled to visit Texas, Ohio State and Miami, with that last trip coming on June 19. Could the elite playmaker, ranked the No. 1 WR in the country by the 247Sports Composite rankings, make a decision soon after?
That's the hope, but for now, Indiana looks to be in the lead of this race, with Alabama close behind in second. That's a concern, but DeBoer is going to roll out the red carpet for this kid in late May and remind him what Bama football is all about. Sure, this update from Wiltfong may be a bit concerning, but the battle for Sales is nowhere close to being done.
