While landing a commitment the Monday after a big official visit weekend isn't exactly shocking, it certainly is when it's from a prospect who wasn't on the official visit, and isn't even in the class Alabama is actively recruiting for right now.

But recruiting never actually sleeps, and even though Kalen DeBoer and staff are focused on the 2027 class, they also have active camps going in Tuscaloosa to evaluate prospects for 2027, 2028, and even the 2029 high school classes.

And on Monday evening, 2028 LB Dustin Henry out of St. Frances Academy in Baltimore - the same high school that produced Tide freshman safety Jireh Edwards - committed to Alabama while he was camping with the Crimson Tide:

2028 LB Dustin "Boosh" Henry chooses Alabama over impressive offer list

Henry was originally a 2029 recruit who recently reclassified into the 2028 class. That means he just finished his freshman year of high school and is jumping straight to his junior year on the gridiron. It should tell you how advanced he is physically to be able to do that, and despite not yet being ranked, he's likely to be one of the top defenders in the 2028 class. His list of offers is impressive.

Along with Alabama, Henry held offers from LSU, Oregon, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, and Texas A&M, among a plethora of others.

Obviously, there's a long way to go between now and the early signing period of December 2027 for the 2028 class, so I'd hold any champagne popping or social media crap-posting to rival fans. Maybe Henry sticks, but most of Alabama's long-term commitments in recent classes have wound up elsewhere.

As things stand, Henry is Alabama's second commitment for 2028, joining Virginia QB Charles Scott Jr., who pledged to the Crimson Tide at the beginning of May.
