Remember a few weeks ago when everyone and their momma poked fun at Alabama when Auburn bested the Crimson Tide in the recruitment of 3-star WR Cedrick Simmons, who grew up a fan of the Crimson Tide?

Yeah, about that.

Simmons committed to Auburn back on July 23rd. Three weeks later, it appears that Simmons has already thought better of that mistake.

On3 recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction on Tuesday for Simmons to flip his commitment to Alabama, per the Rivals Prediction Machine.

Alabama trending to flip in-state WR Cedrick Simmons away from Auburn

Simmons' high school production far exceeds his recruiting ranking. While he's ranked as a consensus 3-star and the No. 588 overall player in the composite rankings, he put up video-game-like numbers for Southside High School in Selma as a junior.

Simmons 2192 receiving yards on 106 receptions with 20 touchdowns. He was coveted by both Alabama and Auburn, along with many programs outside the state.

Simmons took an official visit to Alabama on June 12th, and it appeared that the Crimson Tide was in good shape to earn his commitment. His visit to Auburn the following weekend changed that, and he ultimately chose the Tigers.

It appeared that Alabama was likely to pivot to 3-star Florida native Kyren Caldwell, but Maryland came through with a substantial offer to pull Caldwell to the DMV. DeBoer and staff decided to circle back to Simmons, who appears to be on the verge of joining the Crimson Tide's 2027 class.

This timing is a bit auspicious with 5-star WR Monshun Sales set to make his commitment on Friday, amid rumors that he's likely to pick between Indiana and Texas with Alabama on the outside looking in.

This projected flip is likely unrelated, however, as Alabama has been looking for a lower-cost option at WR to join 4-star commitment Osani Gayles and, hopefully, Sales. That was the dream scenario, though it seems unlikely to pan out at this point.

But Simmons would add another dynamic playmaking WR to the class alongside Gayles. He's a bit undersized, but the tape shows a player who is more than capable of becoming a game-breaking WR at the college level.

Alabama could certainly use the good news in the 2027 class. While DeBoer is off and running with putting together the Tide's 2028 class, this cycle has been a bit disappointing for fans. It was always going to be a smaller class by design, however, and earning a recruiting win over bitter rival Auburn and Comrade Golesh is a nice bright spot.
