While Alabama has landed some under-the-radar recruits recently who have the potential to seriously outperform their recruiting ranking, Crimson Tide fans were starving for a blue chip commitment.

After swinging and missing on some of its top targets, including Mitchell Turner, Junior Tu'upo, and others, Alabama was reeling. That came on the heels of one of their top commitments - 4-star LB Kenneth Simon II - flipping to Tennessee. With Alabama also trending to miss out on 4-star CB Hayden Stepp, Kalen DeBoer needed a win in the worst way.

He got it on Saturday.

4-star WR Osani Gayles, a Top 50 overall recruit in the 2027 class, announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide, picking Alabama over Washington and Stanford:

Alabama lands commitment from 4-star WR Osani Gayles

Gayles is rated as the No. 46 overall player in the 247 composite right now, and he might still be underrated. He's been dominating this summer at various camps, including an MVP performance at the Overtime Elite 7-on-7.

Gayles could see his stock continue to rise, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he finishes this cycle as a 5-star recruit.

Gayles visited Alabama at the end of May, and things began trending toward the Crimson Tide shortly after that. He still took his visit to Washington the following week, but cancelled planned trips to Tennessee and Notre Dame with significant smoke connecting him to Tuscaloosa.

Gayles becomes Alabama's 13th commitment in its much-maligned 2027 class. He's the fourth 4-star or better to join, and the Tide's second-highest-ranked recruit overall behind only 5-star QB Elijah Haven.

Alabama is still in the mix for a couple more WRs during this cycle. The white whale remains 5-star Monshun Sales, though there's little optimism among the fanbase right now that "Bama" is going to end up at the Capstone. Adding Sales to a class that now includes Gayles would give Alabama a dynamic duo at WR in this class that no other program could match. It will be an uphill battle from here, though.

Alabama also appears to be well out in front for 3-star WR Kyren Caldwell, who is set to announce his commitment on July 4th. He took his official visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend of June 19th, and Alabama has been trending coming off that trip.

Alabama has finally built some momentum on the recruiting trail after a rough few weeks. The class won't live up to the standard of the last couple that DeBoer signed, but the Crimson Tide's priorities were different in this cycle.

They're happy with their evaluations on some of the lower-ranked guys they've landed in this cycle, while still adding some star power with prospects like Gayles.
