Key recent Alabama commitment makes it clear where his recruitment stands

Over the weekend, Alabama added to its highly-regarded 2026 class by landing a commitment from fast-rising 3-star OL Jared Doughty from Atlanta. Doughty committed to the Crimson Tide on Sunday to cap off a visit to Tuscaloosa for the Vanderbilt game.

Initially, Doughty planned on taking the remainder of his official visits after his commitment, which included planned trips to Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, and Missouri. On Thursday, plans changed. Doughty made the announcement that he was shutting down his recruitment and cancelling those trips.

Doughty's announcement continues a recent trend of Tide commitments shutting down their recruitments. On Sunday alone, four Alabama pledges made that announcement: 4-star QBs Jett Thomalla and Tayden Kaawa, along with 5-stars Cederian Morgan and EJ Crowell. Several other Alabama commitments made announcements previously, including LB Xavier Griffin, S Jireh Edwards, and CB Zyan Gibson.

Jared Doughty is a major recruiting win for Kalen DeBoer, Alabama

Doughty saw his recruitment blow up at the beginning of his senior season of high school. He's still listed as a 3-star, but will likely finish much higher in the rankings by the time the process ends for the 2026 class.

Doughty came into his senior season as a Georgia State commit, but the Power Four offers started rolling in as soon as tape got out from the first couple of games of his senior year. Georgia, Missouri, and Auburn offered Doughty first, prompting him to decommit from Georgia State. Alabama, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Kentucky, Ohio State, and North Carolina followed.

Doughty was Alabama's 22nd commitment in the 2026 class, a class that has now moved up to No. 3 in the 247 composite. Kalen DeBoer is closing in on a second consecutive Top 5 recruiting class, answering the biggest question about his ability to handle the Alabama job. He is recruiting at a high level, and the program has a ton of positive momentum both on and off the field.

Doughty was the fourth commitment for Alabama on the offensive line in this class. He joined 4-stars Sam Utu and Chris Booker, and 3-star Bear Fretwell. Utu and Booker are both projected to play guard at the next level, while Fretwell and Doughty are expected to be tackles.

After signing one of the top offensive line classes in the nation in 2025, one that has already paid immediate dividends for Alabama with the emergence of Michael Carroll, DeBoer has done a nice job supplementing that with another good class in 2026.
