Most college football experts aren't giving Alabama much of a chance vs. Georgia

It's not often that Alabama football has been able to use the "nobody believes in us" mantra, but it appears to be the case heading into Saturday night in Athens against Georgia. Despite the Crimson Tide being the Bulldogs' boogeyman - Alabama has won nine of the last 10 meetings between the two programs - little ol' Alabama isn't being given much of a chance by the majority of experts.

Of course, that doubt is earned. Alabama faceplanted in its season opener against Florida State, continuing a concerning trend of underperforming on the road under Kalen DeBoer. It just so happens that Sanford Stadium has been a house of horrors for many in recent seasons. Georgia is sporting a 33-game home winning streak that dates back all the way to 2019.

Of course, and Georgia fans have been screaming about it all week as an excuse for the nine defeats, none of which came against Alabama.

In the last two meetings between the two, Alabama has ended similarly impressive Georgia streaks. The Bulldogs came to Tuscaloosa last year with a 42-game regular-season winning streak. Alabama ended that.

In the 2023 SEC Championship Game, Georgia came in having won 29 straight games and was the two-time defending National Champions. Alabama ended that, too.

And on Saturday night between the hedges, despite what the experts may believe, Alabama has a good chance of ending another Georgia streak.

Keeping receipts on those picking Georgia over Alabama

Nine experts on CBS cast their picks for the game; eight picked Georgia to win outright. Shehan Jeyarjah was the only one to pick Alabama to win the game.

Six experts on USA Today picked the game, with five choosing Georgia over Alabama. Eddie Timanus was the one holdout, predicting the Crimson Tide to pull out the road win.

Josh Pate also picked Georgia to beat Alabama.

Bill Connelly's SP+ system sees it differently, projecting a close Alabama victory.

One interesting trend, however, is how much public money is coming in on Georgia. According to Josh Pate, Georgia -2.5 is one of the heaviest bet sides of the week on FanDuel:

And despite that, FanDuel has remained comfortable and confident in that betting line. As of Friday morning, the line remains Georgia -2.5.

That means they are pretty overexposed to a Georgia win. If the Bulldogs win, FanDuel loses. That's presented without further comment from me.

Alabama stacks up pretty well against Georgia. Kirby Smart's secondary is leaky, and Ty Simpson and the Tide's elite group of receivers should be able to take advantage. If this game were played in Tuscaloosa or on a neutral site, I'd be confident in a Tide victory. As is, it's hard to be confident as an Alabama fan with how poorly the team has played in road games under DeBoer.
