Nate Oats adds another big-named visitor to Alabama's loaded fall slate

Nate Oats has had little trouble over the years in landing big-name official visitors to Tuscaloosa. He's also had little trouble closing the deal.

For as much angst as Tide hoops fans have had over Alabama's lack of basketball funding, that has not stopped Oats from consistently landing elite recruiting classes year after year. That includes the 2026 cycle, which ranks No. 6 in the 247 composite.

The 2026 class was headlined by a pair of 5-stars in Qayden Samuels and Jaxon Richardson, alongside two 4-stars in Tarris Bouie and the recently reclassified Anderson Diaz. Diaz was the early headliner for Oats' 2027 class until he decided to join the team immediately.

But Oats is getting things moving for 2027 nonetheless. He's already added a couple of elite recruits to the calendar for official visits this fall. 5-stars Malachi Jordan and 7-foot-3 big man Dylan Betts have both scheduled visits for the fall already.

On Tuesday, Oats added another. According to On3's Joe Tipton, 4-star guard RJ Moore, a Top 50 recruit in the 2027 cycle, scheduled his visit with Alabama for this fall:

Moore is a 6-foot-7 two-guard from Charlotte, North Carolina. He doesn't yet have an official offer from the Crimson Tide, but there's a lot for Oats to like about his game. First and foremost, Moore can shoot the cover off the basketball.

That's obviously enticing in Oats' system. And it's obvious why Moore would want to come and visit Tuscaloosa without even receiving an offer. That should show he has pretty high interest in the Crimson Tide.

It remains to be seen how big a need Alabama will have in the backcourt with the 2027 class, but it could prove to be a significant one, depending on some stay-or-go decisions.

Amari Allen returned for his sophomore season, but he's unlikely to come back for a third. He could play his way into the lottery in the 2027 NBA Draft.

Aden Holloway is a rising senior, but with the new five-in-five rule, he'll have an additional year of eligibility if he wants to use it.

Then there are Diaz and Samuels, both of whom will be true freshmen this season. Their futures will be determined by how they perform on the court in 2026-27.

Moore currently holds nine offers from high major schools, including Rutgers, Florida State, Georgia, Syracuse, and Virginia, among others.

His recruitment will likely continue to heat up, especially now that Oats appears to be hot on his trail.
