Nate Oats and Preston Murphy look to have worked their magic once again.
Just under two months after landing composite 5-star guard Chase Lumpkin out of Georgia, Alabama is trending heavily to land another composite 5-star.
Zion Green, a Philadelphia native who plays for Compass Prep in Chandler, Arizona, is ranked as the No. 24 overall player in the 247 composite. It looks like he's going to join Lumpkin in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama hosted Green on an official visit in September, but he appeared to be leaning toward Ole Miss with multiple predictions favoring the Rebels in his recruitment. All that has changed in the aftermath of the Rebels landing 4-star PF Ahmed Nur, with a similar physical profile to Green.
Now, Alabama is back in the driver's seat. On Friday, multiple predictions came in projecting Alabama to land the 5-star forward. Per the Rivals Prediction Machine, national writers Joe Tipton and Jamie Shaw, along with Ole Miss team reporter Zach Berry, all logged predictions for Green to join the Crimson Tide's 2027 class.
Alabama is trending to land 5-star PF Zion Green in the 2027 class
Green is listed at 6-foot-9 and 190 pounds with a whole bunch of skill. He's in that Noah Clowney/Jarin Stevenson mold, though he's going to have to add some weight in order to hold up at the four spot in the SEC. He could become a jumbo wing if not, but the best bet is that he's a perfect stretch four for Oats' system.
Per his 247 profile, Green shot 41% from three during Pro16 play on 2.6 attempts per game while hitting 78% of his free throws.
Green would be another outstanding addition to Alabama's class. Alongside Lumpkin, he would give the Crimson Tide another pair of composite 5-star prospects who rank in the Top 25 nationally.
In the 2026 cycle, Alabama signed four guys ranked in the Top 55 of the composite: 5-star Jaxon Richardson and 4-stars Qayden Samuels, Anderson Diaz, and Tarris Bouie.
With who Alabama has the potential to return for the 2027-28 season, don't be surprised if they sign a smaller class. In fact, Lumpkin and Green could ultimately be the only two players Oats pursues in the high school class to maintain roster room in the Transfer Portal after the season. There's typically a surprise or two, though, as Diaz was. He was initially a 2027 prospect who reclassified into 2026 and joined the Crimson Tide immediately.
Oats and Murphy have proven to be one of the most formidable recruiting duos in college basketball. It looks like they're about to land yet another blue-chip recruit in Tuscaloosa.
