Nate Oats has found a way to ensure his team takes this year's exhibition matchup in the "Ballin in Boutwell" exhibition seriously.
For the third consecutive season, Alabama will play in an exhibition matchup in Birmingham's famous Boutwell Arena. The event originated with Alabama facing Wake Forest in an exhibition in 2024, and then moved into a bigger event in 2025 with other in-state programs like Auburn joining in. Alabama played and defeated Florida State in last season's event.
This year, Oats is taking a different, far more unique approach. Alabama's opponent was revealed on Thursday, and the Crimson Tide will face off against SEC foe Ole Miss in the exhibition:

Alabama to face Ole Miss in rare SEC vs. SEC exhibition matchup in Boutwell Arena
No easier way to ensure your team is focused and ready to go for an exhibition matchup than to send them head-to-head against the team that knocked them out of last year's SEC Tournament.
The Crimson Tide faced Chris Beard's Rebels twice last season. Alabama earned a 19-point road win in Oxford during the regular season before playing flat and losing by a point in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals in Nashville.
Oats has never shied away from facing all comers in non-conference play to get his team ready for the grind of an SEC schedule. He's also never shied away from taking unique approaches - for better and worse - to all aspects of the program.
This qualifies as both. This is a unique preseason matchup that brings plenty of intrigue, and it also gives Alabama an early look at what life might look like in SEC play in 2026-27 before even getting the regular season started.
Alabama projects to be one of the top teams in the SEC once again, as they've consistently been during Oats' tenure. The retention of Amari Allen and Aden Holloway gives the Crimson Tide a star-studded backcourt as the team's foundation.
Oats then landed one of the top recruiting classes in the country with four blue-chip additions. He also addressed some major needs in the frontcourt, which should remedy Alabama's biggest weakness from last season.
Alabama fans won't have to wait for long to see what this team is made of. You can't overreact to an exhibition game, but this one will certainly have a different feel. It should bring the intensity that is always present in any SEC matchup, and the fans who make the trip to Birmingham for this exhibition will almost certainly get their money's worth.
