No. 1 recruit AJ Dybantsa announcing college decision on Tuesday: Alabama a finalist
The nation's No. 1 basketball recruit in the 2025 class, AJ Dybantsa, is announcing his commitment on Tuesday live on First Take. Alabama is among a group of four finalists for the projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 draft.
Last week, Dybantsa cut his list to four teams. Along with Alabama, BYU, North Carolina, and Kansas were his group of finalists. For a long time, it has appeared that BYU was the leader with an aggressive NIL offer on the table to keep the top recruit in the state of Utah.
A few days ago, Tide assistant coach Preston Murphy tweeted out a cryptic message that had Alabama fans excited about the prospect of Dybantsa coming to Tuscaloosa. Murphy has been a key part of the recruitment with his longstanding relationship with the 5-star. Murphy was Dybantsa's AAU coach during his freshman year of high school.
There has been a lot of momentum recently for the Crimson Tide in this recruitment. AJ's Dad Ace has attended the last two Alabama basketball games. He was in attendance for the Tide's loss to Oregon in the Players Era Festival Championship. He also attended the Tide's blowout win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill last week. The Tar Heels are also a finalist.
Nate Oats and several Alabama players attended Dybantsa's game while they were in Las Vegas. The Tide has done as good of a job as you could imagine to try and land him. There's little known about where he is leaning or what his ultimate decision will be as his recruitment has been tight-lipped.
We'll all find out together on ESPN tomorrow.
