Alabama's 27-20 win over Auburn in the Iron Bowl was keyed by the ground game. Bet you didn't see that coming.

After struggling with running the football against Power Four competition all year long, the Crimson Tide produced 158 yards against the Tigers. That performance was led by senior RB Jam Miller, who put up 83 yards on 15 carries in his best performance since he put up 136 yards in the win over Vanderbilt in October.

In his last four games against SEC foes prior to Saturday's Iron Bowl, Miller had 81 yards on 39 attempts. It was the breakthrough the senior RB needed, and it was massive in helping Alabama escape Jordan-Hare Stadium with a win to clinch a spot in next week's SEC Championship.

Unfortunately for Alabama and Miller, the senior RB went down with a leg injury in the fourth quarter. He left the game and didn't return. After the game, Miller was seen on crutches:

Jam Miller has a lower leg injury and his status is TBD

"He’s got a lower-leg injury," DeBoer said about Miller in the postgame. "Want to evaluate that here, going to get more information on Monday."

Miller has struggled with an injury-plagued senior season. Miller suffered a dislocated collarbone in Alabama's second scrimmage of fall camp, which caused him to miss the first three games of the season.

After making his return against Georgia, Miller suffered a concussion a couple of weeks later in the fourth quarter of Alabama's win over Missouri. He came back the next week against Tennessee, but he's been mostly ineffective since then, until last night's Iron Bowl.

Alabama leaned on redshirt freshman Daniel Hill with Miller out, and Hill would likely be the workhorse in next week's SEC Championship Game if Miller can't go.

Alabama is dealing with multiple injuries to the RB room. Redshirt freshman Kevin Riley suffered a broken jaw last week and will be out moving forward. With Miller and Riley out, the running back who came off the bench to spell Hill was freshman AK Dear.

Dear didn't get a carry, but he did catch a screen pass that he took forward for six yards. The freshman could be in line for some meaningful touches in Atlanta next weekend.

DeBoer is scheduled to speak with the media on Monday, and he will hopefully have an update on Miller's status moving forward.
