Alabama Football flips Four-star QB Keelon Russell from SMU
The Alabama Football team finally has its commitment from a Quarterback in the 2025 signing class as the Alabama Football team has flipped SMU Commit Keelon Russell. The Texas native is a Four-Star recruit ranked by On3's industry ranking as the 57th-best player in the country and the eighth-ranked quarterback. Landing Keelon Russell moves Alabama's recruiting class from eighth to sixth jumping Oregon and Georgia.
Despite the Tide looking at quarterbacks like Deuce Knight, Juju Lewis, and KJ Lacey, Russell quickly flew up the Crimson Tide's recruiting board and is now Kalen DeBoer's first handpicked quarterback commitment. After Keelon Russell's official visit to Tuscaloosa on May 31st, the Tide started to emerge as the favorite to land Russell despite his commitment to in-state SMU.
Everything moved fast between Alabama and Keelon Russell as Alabama quickly moved ahead of SMU once they got Keelon Russell on campus.
Landing Russell will immediately pay dividends for the Alabama Football team on the recruiting trail, especially with offensive talent. The Crimson Tide have highly touted in-state offensive tackle Micah DeBose on campus for an unofficial visit and the commitment of Russell should help the Tide in their push against LSU for DeBose.
Russell is a dual threat quarterback that will remind fans in many ways of current Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe. Russell has an explosive arm to pair with his rushing prowess and will certainly develop under Kalen DeBoer.
The biggest recruiting question has been answered
Despite Kalen DeBoer's early success on the recruiting trail the question everyone wanted answered was which quarterback would Kalen DeBoer bring to Alabama. Now with Keelon Russell on board, the Alabama Football team can push for some of the top offensive talents in the country to build out this recruiting class. Alabama fans' biggest concern with hiring Kalen DeBoer was his ability to recruit the South and thus far, DeBoer has silenced the critics.
