Are the Crimson Tide trending towards flipping former Alabama commit Javion Hilson back?
Among the chaos surrounding players transferring out of Alabama in the aftermath of Nick Saban's retirement, there were also a few de-commitments from the 2025 recruiting class. One player, Antonio Coleman has already flipped back to Alabama and the Tide are pushing for another.
Javion Hilson is ranked as the third-ranked edge rusher in the class as a four-star recruit out of Florida. The edge rusher was committed to Alabama for a month before decommitting upon the news of Nick Saban's retirement. He'd commit to Florida State immediately dealing a blow to the 2025 signing class.
The new staff however hasn't given up on Hilson as they'll host him on an unofficial visit on April 8th while he'll return for an official visit on June 7th. Hilson spoke on the new coaching staff and where Alabama stands, saying the following "Alabama is always showing love. They are up there, they got me thinking."
Once again, playing a massive role in this recruitment is Kalen DeBoer's move to retain Freddie Roach. Retaining Roach has been vital in re-landing Antonio Coleman and Roach will continue to be one of the top recruiters of defensive linemen.
The 2025 recruiting class lost five four-star recruits and a three-star recruit once Nick Saban retired. So far Kalen DeBoer's regained Antonio Coleman while pushing for Hilson and Zion Grady. The defensive side of this recruiting class is loaded with six commitments early on.
Can DeBoer stay hot on the recruiting trail?
If Kalen DeBoer can regain Javion Hilson it could be one of his biggest commitments early in his career at Alabama. This recruiting class has a chance to be a special group. Despite the retirement of Nick Saban the Alabama Crimson Tide ranks inside the top ten with eight commitments. Hilson would become the second-best player in this recruiting class behind Darrell Johnson as a top-50 recruit. Landing him again could send a statement early on in the recruiting cycle.
