Will Alabama land cornerback Greedy Vance?

It has long been believed that Alabama Football would turn to the transfer portal in this spring cycle to add at least one defensive back. The Tide experienced a disproportionate amount of postseason attrition in the secondary, and will need to either replenish its depth or take the field this fall with a lot of unproven players.

Former Florida State cornerback Greedy Vance Jr. hit the portal this week, and could be an option for the Crimson Tide after receiving a scholarship offer from Coach Kalen DeBoer.

Vance started five games for the Seminoles in 2023, notching 34 tackles, four interceptions, and five pass breakups in two seasons in Tallahassee. Prior to that, he recorded 37 tackles and seven PBUs in two seasons at Louisville.

Experienced secondary players are a hot commodity in the portal, so there will be no shortage of teams trying to get Greedy Vance. Alabama could certainly use his services at cornerback, whether it be as a starter or for depth purposes. Even just for the sake of competition, Bama likely needs to add a corner with some college experience.

Even having already added USC transfer Domani Jackson, the rest of the room is composed entirely of freshmen. Redshirt freshman Jahlil Hurley has a year in the program but has yet to see the field. True freshmen like Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown, Zay Mincey, and Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. are super-talented, but as green as they could be.

Vance would be a really good pickup for this Crimson Tide secondary, and could get the ball rolling on a couple more portal commitments. Interestingly, some Florida State insiders believe it was the presence of former Alabama corner Earl Little Jr. that pushed Vance out the door.

If so, it would be sweet retribution for Vance to join college football’s premier brand and thrive at the very place Little walked away from.
