Alabama's wide receiver room has no shortage of candidates capable of making a push for the third spot in the Crimson Tide's 2026 starting lineup.
With Ryan Coleman-Williams and Lotzeir Brooks expected to anchor the room, second-year offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb's latest comments offered a glimpse into what could ultimately separate the next receiver from the rest of the pack.

"I think you're still looking at the guy that's going to make the most plays," Grubb said Thursday to reporters as Alabama concluded its second practice of fall camp. "But part of that is understanding there's more than just catching the football. The good part for us is I think we have 5-6 guys, especially when Noah gets back, that we can move around a lot of different spots."Â
In other words, Grubb isn't simply searching for another pass catcher. He's looking for a receiver he can trust anywhere. That's where often-overlooked junior wideout Rico Scott could enter the chat.
Scott may not have generated the same buzz as NC State transfer Noah Rogers, who's expected to return midseason after recovering from an ankle injury sustained at Alabama's A-Day scrimmage in April, or the likes of talented 4-star true freshman WR Cederian Morgan, rising sophomore Derek Meadows, and intriguing JUCO transfer Tyler Henderson, all of whom he continues to compete against at the position. But he does have one potential advantage that could become increasingly valuable as fall camp continues: experience.
Scott has flashed in his two seasons in Tuscaloosa, recording 11 receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns, but his biggest potential edge may be the familiarity he's developed in Alabama's offense. That factor could become especially important given Grubb's follow-up comments.
 "It's always been one of those things that I think makes this receiving core special and we've used in other places in that guys line up all over the place," Grubb said. "Ryan on the outside, Ryan in the slot, just moving these guys around. So I think one other piece is having a good command of the offense — those are the guys that are easy to plug in almost anywhere."
Nevertheless, Grubb and first-year wide receivers coach Derrick Nix's continued search will be worth watching for an Alabama position group that lost two of its most productive playmakers in Germie Bernard and Isaiah Horton from last season.
For Scott, however, this could be the opportunity he's been waiting for. If he can turn his experience and knowledge of the offense into consistent playmaking, he may finally have his chance to become the receiver Alabama needs to solidify its passing attack in 2026.
