Alabama's fourth Transfer Portal departure comes with just three days remaining in the window.

Freshman Davion Hannah, a 4-star recruit in the 2025 cycle, announced his decision to enter the Transfer Portal on Saturday. He joins Aiden Sherrell, Taylor Bol Bowen, and Jalil Bethea in departing the Crimson Tide this offseason in the portal.

Hannah came to Alabama with a lot of promise, but dealt with injuries and some freshman struggles. He only played in 10 games, last playing a game for the Crimson Tide on December 17th against USF.

Hannah was affectionately compared to Herbert Jones by Nate Oats in the preseason, but likely saw the writing on the wall with limited playing time available in the backcourt or on the wing with what Alabama has coming in.

Perhaps his portal decision, as late as it comes, is a signal that Oats has someone else ready to come in.

Could Davion Hannah entering the Transfer Portal signal something major for Alabama?

Oats has been slow-playing the Transfer Portal in terms of finding guards. Alabama has landed commitments from frontcourt players Brandon Garrison and Jamarion Davis-Fleming, along with young wing Cole Cloer. Alabama is also hosting Boise State transfer forward/center Drew Fielder on a visit this weekend.

But it has remained obvious that a guard would be in the portal plans for Alabama. With Labaron Philon entering the draft, Latrell Wrightsell exhausting his eligibility, and Aden Holloway's future uncertain following his felony marijuana charges, not to mention Amari Allen's pending NBA Draft decision, it would be a significant risk for next season's roster, running a guard-dominant system, to run with the status quo.

Perhaps Hannah, a rising redshirt freshman/sophomore guard, entering the Transfer Portal, is a sign that Alabama is closing in on landing a portal guard.

Alabama has been heavily linked with Furman's Alex Wilkins, though he has yet to come to Tuscaloosa for a visit. That could change quickly, however, and Oats and Preston Murphy tend to move in the shadows when assembling the roster.

Hannah's decision to enter the portal 11 days after it opened signaled that it wasn't an easy decision for him. So perhaps Oats has a trick up his sleeve and some good backcourt news is on the horizon.
