With two weekends remaining in the summer official visit schedule, Alabama football is getting ready to go on a major recruiting run.
On Monday, the first domino fell when 4-star OT Sam Utu from Orange, California, announced his pledge to Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide. Utu became Alabama's sixth commitment in the 2026 class as the staff pushes for a second consecutive top-five class.
Much has been made about Alabama's slow start in this cycle, particularly from folks who didn't pay attention to what happened a year ago. DeBoer and staff entered last summer with four committed prospects before going on a major run on the trail and locking up one of the top classes in the nation.
Alabama has put itself in a good position for a plethora of talented prospects. They've hosted some major targets over the last two weekends, and more will be flocking to Tuscaloosa over the next couple of weeks.
Who could be next in joining the Crimson Tide's 2026 class?
These players are most likely to commit to Alabama next
WR Brian Williams
On Monday afternoon, Alabama started trending for 3-star WR Brian Williams, who just took his official visit to Tuscaloosa over the weekend. Williams isn't one of the most highly-rated targets out there, but one peek at his list of offers shows a player who is being undervalued by the recruiting networks.
It looks like Alabama is hoping to take three or so receivers in this class. They are in a good position for 5-star in-state WR Cederian Morgan, who is slated for a visit on June 20th. Alabama has also made pushes for Tristen Keys, Boobie Feaster, and Owen Cabell.
DL Titan Davis
After taking his official visit to Alabama over the final weekend of May, 4-star DL Titan Davis immediately announced he had trimmed his list to two schools: Alabama and Michigan. Davis cancelled his remaining visits, save for a scheduled trip to Ann Arbor.
Davis is scheduled to visit the Wolverines over the weekend of June 20th. Alabama holds a slip lead according to On3's RPM, but his visit to Michigan could obviously make a big difference. Alabama has put itself in good position for the elite defensive lineman from St. Louis, however, and he should be making a final decision pretty soon.
LB Xavier Griffin
Alabama has been viewed as the favorite for 5-star LB Xavier Griffin since he decommitted from USC, but it is far from a guarantee that he ends up in the Tide's class. Working in Alabama's favor is that Griffin grew up a fan of the team, and he has a great relationship with OLB coach Christian Robinson.
Griffin took a visit to Alabama last weekend, and all reports indicated things went well. Not well enough, however, for him to cancel a couple of remaining visits that could prove to be a thorn in DeBoer's side.
The biggest hurdle will be Griffin's visit to Texas this weekend. He will visit his official visit schedule with a mid-week trip to Florida State next week, and then he could be ready to make his decision.
QB Jett Thomalla or Matt Ponatoski
Alabama is still looking for its QB in the 2026 class, and it seems likely to be one of these two. The 4-star prospects have both recently visited Alabama, and the Crimson Tide has high interest in both.
Matt Ponatoski was in Tuscaloosa this past weekend, and Alabama has a slim lead in his recruitment at the moment. The biggest competition will be Oregon, and the Ohio product has an official visit scheduled to Eugene on June 20th. Ponatoski will play both football and baseball at the next level, but there's some concern that he could be drafted highly in the MLB Draft, which could end his collegiate career before it even begins.
Jett Thomalla is less risky, but the 4-star from Nebraska is currently committed to Iowa State. Alabama is working on getting Thomalla back on campus for an official visit after he took a recent unofficial to Tuscaloosa recently. Thomalla took his official visit to Iowa State this past weekend, but he is still reportedly conflicted over what he wants to do:

If Alabama can get Thomalla back on campus, then that should increase its chances of flipping his commitment from the Cyclones. Nailing down the QB position for the 2026 class is vital, and it looks like Alabama is getting close to doing just that.
