Tyler Booker is trying to light the fire under Alabama football teammates
Alabama football fans have been waiting to see the fire from this Crimson Tide team or coaching staff. The players have been called out by fans, analysts, and former players alike for what has seemed at times to be a lackadasical approach to everything.
Everyone just wants to see that this matters to them. Safety Keon Sabb showed it mattered to him when he played 30 snaps against Tennessee with a broken foot.
While Tyler Booker didn't exactly do that, according to WR coach JaMarcus Shepherd, Booker has been trying to light the fire under his teammates' behind this week at practice.
One can ponder why it took two losses to elicit that kind of respone from a team captain. One also could be wrong and Booker has been providing that kind of leadership all season long and Shepherd chose now to share it with the media.
"Do it the right way or get out." That sounds like Nick Saban era Alabama talk, and I think most fans have arrived at a similar conclusion to this team. Forget who the most talented players are; give us the guys who are going to give it everything they have, every snap.
No more fadeaway jumpers on 4th-and-1 by a couple of wide receivers who aren't involved in the play. No more joking and laughing on the sideline when you're losing by multiple scores to Vanderbilt.
It's do or die time for Alabama, if it wasn't already. The Crimson Tide can't lose another game this season or they can kiss the playoff goodbye. The standard is high here; it's so high that a 5-2 record through seven games is the worst record fo the program in 17 years and deemed unacceptable.
Booker is aware of that. Coaches like Shepherd seem to bring the fire with them every day, unafraid to call out players publicly if it warrants it.
The rest of the leadership team, and the coaching staff, should take their cues from Booker and Shepherd.
