While it should be obvious, what follows is an opinion post. During the ups and downs of Alabama's Fall Camp, these opinions will be revisited.
Put me in the Phil Steele-justified group of optimistic Alabama football fans. Steele chose the Crimson Tide as his top potential surprise team for the 2026 season. When I finished my July effort of predicting the outcome of every Alabama regular-season game, my projection had the Crimson Tide going 10-2. I came to that conclusion based on the belief that Alabama could finish the regular season with only one loss, or possibly four losses.
Let's dig deeper into both doubts and confidence that Crimson Tide fans share. My greatest doubt is of considerable concern. It isAlabama's unproven offensive line. From Kalen DeBoer to almost every Alabama fan, there is an understanding that Alabama must run the ball effectively. The Crimson Tide did not come close to doing so last season. And Alabama's pass protection cannot resemble last season's too-often porous performance.
Even if every game plan is excellent and if Ryan Grubb calls every game masterfully, without a much-improved offensive line, the Crimson Tide could be that 8-4, non-Playoff team that worries me.
Alabama Football Good News
Perhaps 'Good News' should more accurately be defined as 'Optimism'. The foundation of my optimism is a strong belief that the Crimson Tide's other position groups will be better than last season. Let's review each one.
- Quarterback - Better suited for the DeBoer/Grubb offense, and higher player talent ceiling
- Running Back - Deep talent that can be special behind a fully functioning offensive line
- Receivers and Tight Ends - Depth in high-end talent to make explosive plays and roster numbers to overcome any normal season bad injury luck
- Defensive Line - Plenty of talent and great depth to counter any fourth quarter fatigue
- Linebackers - More than solid. Off the ball, Caleb Woodson and QB Reese will deliver. Loaded at the Wolf position.
- Secondary - One of college football's best, with no weak links and starter level backups
- Special Teams - Better overall than last season with new kickers
That's it Alabama fans. One huge concern and a host of reasons to be bullish about the Alabama Crimson Tide.
