Alabama is one of 10 SEC teams to have played an SEC game. The Kentucky Wildcats have played two. Five SEC teams open their conference schedules in CFB's Week 4. Even after Week 4, SEC standings will matter little. After Week 4, only one SEC team will have a zero chance of making the CFB Playoffs. If ESPN's FPI is correct, Arkansas has already bottomed out with 0% probability of making the Playoff field.
Based on the FPI, eight SEC teams have a 20% or higher probability of reaching the Playoff. Texas leads the way at 85.3%, followed by Georgia at 75.4%, and Alabama at 59%. While the FPI is not the source of the SEC Power Rankings below, the rankings are similar to the FPI's top SEC teams.

- No. 6 - Tennessee Vols (3-0) beat Kennesaw State 42-9. Last week No. 6
- No. 7 - Mississippi State (3-0) beat South Carolina on the road, 41-34, with Kamario Taylor outplaying LaNorriss Sellers. The soaring Bulldogs moved up five spots from last week's No. 12 ranking.
- No. 8 - Florida Gators (3-0) beat Auburn 44-39 in 'Voodoo World', Auburn's Jordan-Hare Stadium. Last week, No. 10
- No. 9 - Kentucky Wildcats (2-1) shocked a stadium full of Aggies in College Station, beating Texas A&M 31-21. Last week, No. 15
- No. 10 - Texas A&M Aggies (2-1) lost to the Cats and lost some credibility in the process. Last week, No. 7
- No. 11 - Oklahoma Sooners (2-1) beat New Mexico 14-6 and remain in contention with Arkansas for the SEC's least potent offense. Last week, No. 8
- No. 12 - Missouri Tigers (3-0) beat Troy 27-17 in another offensive stinker for the SEC. Last week, No. 9
- No. 13 - Auburn Tigers (2-1) lost to Florida 44-39. The Tigers should handle Vanderbilt in Week 4. If they don't, the Golesh honeymoon will end during the four games in five weeks that follow: at Tennessee, at Georgia, LSU, and at Ole Miss. Last week, No. 11
