It may hurt, but Alabama needs some help from Auburn right now to get the ultimate advantage in the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

You are probably thinking to yourself right now, 'Why would I ever want to hope Auburn does well in anything?' Well, Auburn's success right now could result in success for Alabama when it comes to the NCAA Baseball Tournament.

After a blowout loss to the Florida Gators in the SEC Tournament on Thursday, Alabama's fate in terms of where they will be seeded in the bracket is in the hands of other teams. Entering the day on Thursday, the Crimson Tide was projected to be the 6-seed heading into the tournament next week, but the loss to the Gators could change everything.

The Tide could easily slip from that 6-seed, allowing the Gators to slide into the 8-seed, where Texas A&M currently sits. This is where Auburn comes into play as the Tigers take on the Aggies on Friday. A convincing win for Auburn over Texas A&M could cause the Aggies to slide like Alabama and bring Alabama back into the 8-seed.

Why does being a top-8 seed matter to Alabama in the NCAA Baseball Tournament?

For anyone new to college baseball and softball, seeding matters so much. Both sports at the college level have a Regional and Super Regional Round before setting the stage for the College World Series. The Regional Round features all 64 teams that made it to the postseason, cutting down to 16 teams in the Super Regional round, and finally eight teams in the College World Series.

The top 16 national seeds all host three other teams in the Regional round, but the Super Regional round is where that top-8 national seed comes into play. One team from each Regional will advance to the Super Regional round, and the top-8 seeds remaining will go on to host.

That home-field advantage is huge for any team that gets it, and Alabama is no different. Not having to go on the road would be huge for the Tide, and Auburn can help Alabama get there.

As much as Bama fans aren't going to want to be hopeful for an Auburn win, even a big one, they will have to swallow their pride just a bit for the good of the Alabama team.
