Does anyone remember those Nick Saban words? “This is not the end. This is the beginning.”
If you don’t, those words came from Alabama football head coach Nick Saban during the Tide’s celebration for winning their first BCS Championship with Saban in charge. Did those words go in one ear and out the other or did you pay attention? I’ll be h0nest. At the time, I was thinking we could win another one sometime soon, perhaps two. Here is the full quote via AL.com.
“I want everybody here to know, this is not the end. This is the beginning,” Alabama coach Nick Saban said to wild cheers from the crowd. “This team, our fans, our athletics administration has proven that we know what it takes, and we’re going to build on that in the future with the players that we have coming back next year and the future players that are building our program into the greatest and the most consistent winning program in the country.”
Building our program into the greatest and most consistent program in the country? Mr. Hammer, meet the Nailhead.
Four national titles in seven years. It’s unheard of in this era of college football. It may not be duplicated for quite some time, if at all.
If you also count the 2009 SEC Title which was before he made the above quote, that will add four SEC Championships to the total. Also counting the 2009 season, Saban’s team have posted an 86-10 overall record. There’s that consistency again popping up.
With all of these top signing classes that continue to roll in every Nick Saban Day, or National Signing Day to the common folk, it doesn’t appear things are ready to slow down. The next time you get frustrated about a call during a game or even a loss, think back to this. “This is not the end. This is the beginning”.
