Is it just me or does it seem like we beat LSU in almost everything? I think we do and I, personally, love it.

Clinching a series from the LSU Tigers is no easy task. They are a team that is ranked number 7 in the country. They are replacing eight folks this season but with the caliber of program they have in Baton Rouge, it seems that it is always plug-and-play. All of that factors into 6-0 and 4-3 wins for the Tide over LSU.

Yeah, they may not head to Omaha for the College World Series every season, but more times than not they are a contender and in the conversation.

We posted an article a few days ago showing that the Crimson Tide was leading the conference in most all of the pitching stats, but they were near the bottom in offense. On Saturday, they showed a little of both.

The pitching staff held the Tigers to only five hits in game one of the two-game slate and recorded the first shutout for the Alabama Crimson Tide in Baton Rouge since May 2000. There wasn’t much bat action at the dish in the early going as both teams were scoreless after six complete innings.

Geoffrey Bramblett got the start on the mound during the first game and worked six complete innings, only allowing four hits, one walk, and a strikeout. Jon Keller entered in relief for three innings and kept the Tigers off the board, earning the save. Jake Walters got the call to start for game two. Walters went 5.2 innings allowing only one earned run on seven hits. Matt Foster earned the save in that game and had  Dylan Duarte and Sam Finnerty come in just before he entered to help wrap up the series.

More from Bama Hammer

Four runs from seven hits came for the Tide in the seventh to really give the Tide some breathing room. Runners stood at the corners after a double from Chance Vincent and a bunt from Georgie Salem. Will Haynie shot one off of the left field wall to give the Tide the 2-0 lead. Chandler Avant added another run with shot straight back to center and Cody Henry slipped a blooper past the shortstop for the final run of the inning.

Two more runs were added off a home run from Chandler Taylor.

Game two had another quiet start, but also a dramatic comeback attempt in the bottom half of the ninth for the bad guys that didn’t work out like they wanted it. Two hit by pitches and an fielding error put Alabama batters on all of the bags in the fourth inning. With a single from Chandler Avant and ground out for Georgie Salem, Alabama added two runs to make it 2-0.  Will Haynie posted one more over the wall to push the Tide lead out to 3. The Tigers were quick to answer in that same fifth frame using a double and a single to get one run back.

A pair of singles from Georige Salem and Will Haynie put men on the corners for the Tide during the ninth. Keith Holcombe singled in one more run to give the Tide four runs during the nightcap.

The Tigers made it interesting in the bottom of the ninth scoring two but couldn’t close the gap to force extra innings or to get the win.
