Crimson Tide Report: Softball and BBQ
Happy Memorial Day, Tide fans! We hope you’re enjoying a day off, eating some barbeque and celebrating a Crimson Tide victory as the women of Bama softball head to the Women’s College World Series.
ICYMI: Make Alabama Baseball Great Again, Please
Alabama Crimson Tide softball beat the Washington Huskies twice in a row this weekend in a best-of-three Super Regional at home in Tuscaloosa. The Tide didn’t even need the third scheduled game; they handed back to back losses to the Huskies Friday night and Saturday afternoon to send Washington packing – and Bama to the Women’s College World Series.
The Bama softball team has only been in existence since 1997 (that’s 19 years, for those of us that feel like the 90s were only 10 years ago). In those 19 seasons, including this year, Alabama has made 18 appearances in the NCAA tournament. 18 of 19? Those are some stats Crimson Tide kicker Adam Griffith would kill to have come football season!
Actually, those are stats that would make every athletic team in the country Crimson with envy. This year marks the Tide’s 11th appearance in the Women’s College World Series. While Bama hasn’t brought home the national title since 2012, the Crimson Tide faithful are hoping for more hardware for the trophy case in just over a week.
The NCAA Women’s College World Series will be played in Oklahoma City starting this Thursday, June 2nd, and running through either June 7th or 8th.

Four of the eight teams in the WCWS are from the SEC: Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Georgia. In fact, the SEC is the ONLY conference with more than one representative, with the ACC (Florida State), the Big Ten (Michigan), The PAC12 (UCLA), and Big 12 (Oklahoma).

According to the brackets, The University of Alabama and Auburn University are in DIFFERENT divisions. While it’s a long shot, that opens up the possibility for a Crimson Tide vs Tigers “Iron Bowl” style World Series matchup.
Before any conclusions can be drawn about the World Series Finals, each team must begin with the Double Elimination part of the tournament. Alabama will square off against Oklahoma Sooners this Thursday, June 2nd. Game time and media coverage is still TBA.
