SEC Hot and Cold Week 5

Which teams are hot and which teams are cold in the SEC this week.

Alabama: HOT

Alabama’s domination of Georgia with a 38-10 victory and their returning to the top 10 in both the AP Poll and the Coaches Poll show that it’s never wise to count out the Tide. Alabama played their best game of 2015 on Saturday and quarterback Jake Coker looks like he may have found his stride. Alabama is certainly hot right now. I know the media was so about the Alabama dynasty being dead, sorry to disappoint you all.

Arkansas: THAWING

Arkansas was able to get an SEC win and beat Tennessee in Knoxville so the Hogs are warming up, but they aren’t hot yet. You can’t really be hot until you’ve gotten a couple of victories in a row under your belt. Arkansas will be facing a tough road game against hot Alabama this week in Tuscaloosa.

Auburn: COLD

Auburn beat San Jose State, but it wasn’t pretty. Peyton Barber was the bright spot for Auburn rushing for 147 yards and 5 touchdowns, but Auburn’s defense looked as bad as ever. Auburn allowed San Jose State to pass for 224 yards and run for 182. Auburn beat San Jose State 35-21, but didn’t look all that much better than the team we’ve seen all year. Auburn is still very cold.

Florida: HOT

The Florida Gators on the rise and new head coach Jim McElwain has them churning along. Florida’s win over #3 Ole Miss was their biggest win in years. The Gators completely shut down the rebels and won big 38-10. Florida is hot.

Georgia: COLD

Georgia cam into the game against Alabama with high hopes and national championships on their mind. Despite doing everything they could to hype the game up, Georgia pulled a Georgia and fell apart after against big competition. This is a hot team that just took a leap into ice water.

Kentucky: HOT

Kentucky floundered around a bit against Eastern Kentucky but they got the win and sit at 4-1 having lost only to the hot Floirda Gators. Kentucky is only a couple of victories away from being bowl eligible, it doesn’t get much hotter than that for the Wildcats.

LSU: HOT

LSU didn’t have their most impressive game against Eastern Michigan, but Leonard Fournette is still Leonard Fournette. Fournette ran for 233 yards and four touchdowns. LSU is still the team to beat in the SEC with a 4-0 record and is heading into a game they should win against South Carolina. I don’t think South Carolina is ready for a hot cup of Fournette.

Ole Miss: COLD

Ole Miss stuggled against Vanderbilt and that cooled them off, but getting owned by Florida has put them into the deep freeze. Ole Miss’ dreams of a National Title aren’t dead, but they are on ice for now. Can the Rebels bounce back and get hot or are they going to be a regularly common cold Ole Miss team?

Mississippi State: COLD

Mississippi State is 3-2, but the only SEC team they’ve beaten are the terrible Auburn Tigers. Mississippi’s schedule is only going to get harder from here on out. Bundle up, it’s cold out there MSU.

Missouri: HOT

A loss to Kentucky is forgotten with a win over the lowly South Carolina. Missouri is hard to figure out this year, but they are 4-1. Missouri next takes on Florida and then the probably now angry Georgia so we will soon know who Missouri is this year.

South Carolina: COLD

South Carolina is having a bad year. They haven’t won a single SEC game so far. I didn’t think I’d ever say this, but it may be time for Steve Spurrier to hang it up. South Carolina will be lucky to make a bowl this year.

Tennessee: COLD

Butch Jones has been saying he’s building Tennessee “brick by brick” for three years. I guess Vols fans just didn’t realize that those were bricks of ice and he was building an igloo. Tennessee lost to lowly Arkansas this week in another late loss game. Butch Jones now has to face an angry Georgia and then travel to Alabama. Tennessee is 2-3 nd looking at 2-5.

Texas A&M: HOT

Now that Georgia has fallen Texas A&M has taken up the media mantel of the team that will beat Alabama. Clay Travis’ response to being taunted about his saying Georgia would end Alabama’s dynasty was to claim that Texas A&M will beat Alabama. We will see what happens when the the Aggies and the Tide meet on October 17th.

Vanderbilt: COLD

Poor Vandy.
