TIDE REPORT: Saban, Bielema Preview This Weekend’s Game

It’s time for another edition of the Tide Report to get you caught up on the latest happenings surrounding Alabama athletics.

We are only a few days out from some Alabama football and no telling what else happening on a full day of college football. There’s definitely been some crazy stuff going on and that is one reason why I love it.

First off, I wanted to bring some attention to some comments that Arkansas coach Bret Bielema made about Alabama. Yes, he has been in the news before for making questionable comments but, these were great. It seems Saban and Bielema have an appreciation for each other and what type of game each coach wants to have his team play.

“Nothing prepares you for this venue (Bryant-Denny Stadium),” Bielema said per Al.com. “This is one of the best I’ve ever been in, in college football. Not only do you have a great football team, you have a great crowd, great environment, very good coaching and some really good players on the field.”

As usual on Thursday, you can check out Saban’s press conference from Wednesday evening as well as a short recap in case you don’t have time to view the video. Here is one tidbit on the wide receivers from the guys over at Bama Online. Everything else appeared to be status quo.

"– The wide receivers broke up into three lines (X, Z and H) during the second period to work with the QBs. Calvin Ridley headed the X line, ArDarius Stewart was at the front of the Z line and Richard Mullaney started the H line.– Daylon Charlot was behind Ridley, Cameron Sims was behind Stewart and Chris Black was behind Mullaney."

  • Things have gone ok with practice this week. The team went inside for Wednesday since it was so hot.
  • The biggest challenge that the team will have is to maintain their intensity.
  • Saban: “Good is the enemy of being great”
  • Arkansas played a good game against a top 10 team in Texas A&M and that’s how they are going to treat them.
  • Coach Saban says “no doubt” on if he wanted another assistant coach. “Hopefully someday, we will be able to do that”.
  • On Alphonse Taylor: He has gotten better and better every year and that has a lot to do with his maturity.
  • Saban can’t believe that a reporter said he watches the offensive line. Most watch the ball.
  • Adam Griffith struggled but has made some kicks. He will have to deal with maintaining the intensity. Seems very confident right now.
  • Need the tight ends to be able to block effectively. O.J. Howard as improved on that. Need more of them for blocking to help the offense run the ball.
