Alabama Football: 5 Tide Players Named Walter Camp All-Americans
By Chris Hale
Five Alabama football players were named to the Walter Camp All-American team, the foundation announced on Thursday.
The honors keep rolling in for Alabama Crimson Tide players as the College Football Awards happen. On the same night, The Walter Camp Foundation named five Tide players to their All-American team.
The Walter Camp All-America teams are selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 129 FBS schools and certified by Marcum LLP, a New Haven-based accounting firm. This is the 126th edition of the Walter Camp All-America team – the nation’s oldest All-America team.
“Once again, we had more than 80 percent of the FBS schools participate in this year’s voting,” Walter Camp Foundation President Robert Kauffman said. “We are very appreciative of the continuing cooperation of the coaches and sports information directors in our annual effort to honor the nation’s most outstanding college players.”
Earning first team honors for the Tide are running back Derrick Henry, center Ryan Kelly, and linebacker Reggie Ragland. Defensive lineman A’Shawn Robinson and safety Eddie Jackson landed on the second team.
Both Kelly and Henry have both taken home awards thus far in the evening. Henry was named the Walter Camp Player of the Year as well as the Doak Walker Award while Kelly took home the award for the nation’s top center, the Rimington Award.
