ICYMI: Alabama Baseball Has Six Current Players, Three Signees Selected In Draft
This weekend was a big one for Alabama baseball. Yes, the season is over so no, we can’t report any wins (or losses, thank goodness). But the Crimson Tide had six current players and three signees taken in the Major League Baseball draft over the last few days. If all nine guys decide to take their respective offers from the big league ball clubs, Bama will be left with some major holes in the roster to fill.
Closer Thomas Burrowes was selected 117th overall by the Seattle Mariners, and was the first of an eventual seven pitchers from the Crimson Tide. Fan-favorite catcher Will Haynie was taken 470th overall by the Colorado Rockies. For the complete list Alabama players and signees drafted by Major League Baseball, click any of the two above links.
Saturday night was also a fun one for Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett. The potential starter (but likely backup to senior Cooper Bateman) for the Crimson Tide has picked up quite a following on social media, and doesn’t mind entertaining his fans. Barnett posted a video that got more attention than the laid-back California dude was probably expecting. The video featured Blake tossing Solo cups from various positions around a pool and “scoring” perfectly every time. Though clearly edited, Barnett enjoyed messing with both fans and foes alike on Twitter and Instagram, coyly joking “What editing?”.
