The Crimson Tide’s second string has been compared to an FBS team. How do YOU think they faired?

First and foremost, the obvious biggest news of the day is the death of Tennessee basketball coaching legend Pat Summit. It’s moments like these that make us put aside any team loyalties and affiliations to collectively mourn the passing of a truly remarkable woman. BamaHammer’s thoughts and prayers are with Summit’s family and friends as they move forward in the days ahead.
It almost seems silly and trivial to continue talks of football on a day like this, but we all know that every coach in existence would want the games to continue. So, on we roll.
SBNation released a piece this morning comparing Alabama’s second string players to an average FBS team. The question was whether or not the Crimson Tide’s backups could beat the starters for an FBS squad, and based on the numbers, it definitely looks like it. They mostly looked at the players on both of the rosters and their original recruiting ratings. Comparing the two, it looks as though Bama’s second string – and maybe even their third string – could beat a team like the Northern Illinois Huskies.

All we have to say is thank goodness for that. Anyone who was at the Shula-coached game against NIU in Tuscaloosa in 2003 will be grateful to read that an upset of the Crimson Tide like the one we witnessed that day is unlikely to ever happen again – or, at least, while Coach Nick Saban is at the helm.
