Chattanooga Halftime Interview

At the end of the first quarter, the FCS Chattanooga Mocs led #1 Alabama by a score of 3-0. The defense was playing well, but the offense had struggled.

The score at halftime was 14-3. Bama had managed to get ahead, but the offense was still having a hard time and had been unable to maintain any drives.
The two touchdowns had come one one long TD pass and off of a short field after a Chattanooga player put a punt on the ground.

SEC Network’s Olivia Harlan had the unenviable job of interviewing Coach Saban on his way to the locker room. She asked a question about the lack of success on third down and Saban launched into a rant about all the things his team wasn’t doing.

Olivia’s next question was a little awkwardly worded and Saban didn’t seem to know exactly what she was asking. So he tried to summarize the halftime speech he was about to give.

After a half like that, I doubt that Coach Saban’s halftime speech was safe for work or for young listeners. He didn’t seem to know what to say in the moment, on national television, that wasn’t going to get him in trouble.

So he snapped at Olivia Harlan a little and admitted that he was embarrassed by the football his team was playing. Oops. Not ideal.
